Crysis 2 vs. COD

Post » Thu Mar 05, 2009 2:24 am

Talon95,

Give Cry2 a chance. We've seen a demo for the Xbox. We'll see one for the PC. I would recommend you hold off your subtle polite trolling and let the game show off its best face. Just like Bad Company 2 svcked on the Xbox, ruled the PC, I have a feeling Crysis 2 will do the same. In terms of CoD being ripped off, I say screw it. Killstreaks are fun, and honestly not a huge gameplay manipulator. If Crysis 2 turns out to be a high-tec, better-looking, more innovative Call of Duty, I for one will be happy. Black Ops isn't my tea of choice, but if you add some of the Nanosuit/somewhat destructable environments, I think we're in for an amazing game in March.

As Cloak said,
Cryengine cod > Infinityward cod

But why play the copy when you already have the original?

The developers of DICE know how to make a PC game. The developers of ex Free Radical have no experience making PC games. When asked about what they have done specifically on the PC to accomadate its fanbase, they start talking about the scaling engine and say that nothing else is different... Their lack of experience is blaringly obvious and I don't put too much faith in them. Don't call it Crysis 2 Multiplayer if its nothing like Crysis... The only thing similar to the original is the nanosuit.

Frankfurt on the other hand knows how to develop on the PC, so the Singleplayer should be an amazing experience. :)

Then our last hope is in the Sp, as I theorized long ago.

And You have to admit the new Sp footage based trailers are amazingly impressive :)

Yeah, the SP footage both looks graphically better and much better gameplay wise. :) I think the Frankfurt team also knows the in's and out's of the CryEngine 3 more than UK, partly because they are awesome, and mostly because they have 10 years of experience with it. :)

Btw, Thanks for the response. I still have faith in Crytek (The German based pioneers) for making impressively Hd games like Crysis and FarCry. The only loop for me is why did Crytek UK get the job for Crysis 2 Mp, when they could have just left it with Crytek Germany?

They have the experience, Yes, they developed Crysis Wars, which was more competitive (after a few patches) and still managed to make Crysis Warhead in the same office. :|

Nah, I think Crytek Bulgaria did Crysis Warhead and Wars. ;)

They gave it to Crytek UK because they wanted do designate an entire studio to the multiplayer so it could become something more than an add-on than before. The only apparent problem is that the UK team made it a sell-out instead of an add-on. xD

Actually Crytek Budapest (which is close to Bulgaria and begins with a B, so that's why you're mistaking Talon95) produced Crysis Warhead. There is, however, a studio named Crytek Black Sea (Bulgaria's entire eastern part faces the Black Sea) which produced Worldshift and Knights of Honour. Credits goes to Wikipedia, as always :)

Truly, CoD is dead since Call of duty 4 Modern Warfare. But when we want Crytek to do exactly the same Activision did with Call of Duty (not changing gameplay anymore, adding only more weapons, other maps, and very few new features), Crysis will die the same, awefull and painfull death. Do we want this? No, I say. When they keep changing the whole gameplay in MP, so that every game has a new experience, everything will be fine. If not, Crysis whole concept will fall down.

a game of 6on6 gets drastically boring whether there are lame killstreaks or not. I can think of several cool killstreaks off the top of my head though.

- Pilot a fighter/bomber jet and drop down a volley of explosives. Key word, PILOT.
- Deploy an AI or user controlled mech robot to wreck havoc throughout the battlefield or serve as a field medic to revive fallen players.
- EMP blast to render all enemy HUD and Killstreaks useless for a short amount of time.
- A Nanosuit Hack feature that gives the other team an impression of ghosting enemies or a malfunctioning map/hud like ammo counts being displayed incorrectly, etc. Be careful to not make this annoying or too long.
- A transport helicopter above the map that allows its team to parachute or launch out across the map (wherever the player chooses to land, is where they are dropped. This can remove the issue of bad spawn killing.
- A support helicopter drops in an ammo crate that replenishes your teams ammunition count and additionally gives them one magazine of incendiary ammo.
- Or on another note, a support helicopter can drop down maintenance equipment, allowing your team to maintenance weaponry to increase accuracy with a longer barrel or swap out attachments IN REAL LIFE. This will solve the issue people have without being able to mod our weaponry in real time like with the old game.

These are just a couple ideas, I could think of a couple more if I really wanted to. The key part of being a game designer is INNOVATION and FREE THINKING, which seems to be something the UK team is lacking at the moment. Some killstreaks that benefit team gameplay as a whole instead of selfish "orbital strikes" wouldnt hurt, either.

Those are some sweet ideas you got there

Even Call of Duty didn't do the class and perk system first. Rainbow Six Vegas allowed you to create a custom class, and Battlefield 2142 allowed for upgrades.

I think the perks, kill streaks, create classes and whatnot are just the way FPS shooters are being made now. Call of Duty may have been the first developer to feature these in their games but that doesn't mean that other games should not use them as well. I do think that the games are very similar but that's not always a bad thing. TC Rainbow 6 Vegas 1&2, Battlefield Bad Company 1&2, Call of Duty 4, Call of Duty World at War, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Halo Reach all feature some of the create a class, perks, dog tags etc. However each one of these games plays differently than the other. I played a lot of CoD4 and a good bit of MW2 but thanks to the Nano suit with it's armor and stealth modes the planning and timing that goes into using the energy I think it will have a distinct game play from the Call of Duty franchise. I don't know how many people saw this commercial but it kinda applies to this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGLN4CPROgg . If you can't make the connection...well then you just might need to find a new game.

Frankfurt did C1, Budapest did Warhead, and frankfurt did Wars
then Frankfurt did C2 SP, and crytek UK did MP
the azian studio is doing warface and crytek has 3 studios in eastern europe(budapest, Kiev and Sofia) so that leaves 3 studios working on unannounced products atm(although 1 is working on Codename Kingdoms(which we know jack about)
