A chance on another PC exclusive Crysis-game-maybe Crysis 3?

Post » Mon Mar 09, 2009 5:07 am

Hi,

look at the title.
I preordered my Crysis 2 Nano Edition just 10 minutes ago and I'm thinking for the multiplatform market Crytek has done an absolutely great job.

BUT:
We haven't seen any Crysis 2 SP vids or some detailed gameplay/information so I think to talk about that isn't fair.

The MP looks just like a clone from other games ( I know, we had this topic a lot of time).

My Question is:

Will there be another PC Exclusive Crysis part? Maybe Crysis 3?
Because I think, without the consoles Crysis 2 would be a lot better (vehicles, large player count, etc.)

I am sure no official Crytek employee will answer to this, but maybe some members from gamesas can give me answers.

Thank you...

By the time Crysis 3 is out the new 8th Gen consoles will be out which will open up a tonne of options as far as your points are concerned :)

It has been stated by Cevat himself that Crytek will give the pc extra time and effort,,, but no exclusives anymore.
A Crysis 3 hasnt been announced yet. It depends on how good Crysis 2 will sell.

Yeah, I'm sure that the nextgen consoles will have much power, BUT:
The PC will always be 1 generation forward, maybe someone will understand me :D

The PC is forever moving forward. The Consoles are static and start to date the moment their hardware is finalized. In some ways that can be a positive as developers know exactly what they are developing for and get a better understanding of the capabilities of the machine. However, when your 18mths - 2years down the line the limitations really start to show & current gen consoles are years outta date.

Even the piracy on the Pc has gone down...while the piracy on consoles and especially on handhelds have increased in 2010.*

From end 2009 48% till the end of 2010 31% !!!

@bigboulder:
Du glaubst doch nicht wirklich, dass man dem der GVU trauen kann? :D

Jac:
That's the same what I'm thinking :(
So maybe we don't have the chance to get a reallly nice game like Crysis 1 (more like nice, it's awesome!) again? I mean at least the MP :(

Well, your points are design choices, made by Crytek UK, not because of hardware limitation. Look at M.A.G: 256 Players at ONCE. And it's a PS3 Exclusive.

To be honest, exclusives always have a negative side: When they are exclusives, there is a much smaller fanbase, with wich I can discuss and play with. Halo, a very good game, would have a much bigger (and mature) community, if it was multiplattform, but it ain't.

Crysis 1 didn't had one of the biggest communities, but with Crysis 2 now going Multiplattform, it will expand the small community, to a much bigger community.

The PC platform was always ahead, no matter what platform it was against..

If the console versions sold poorly and pc version sold very well, they may consider abandoning the console versions and focus on the pc version of next game. But the gap should be pretty large for like a few millions for pc and a few tens or hundreds thousands for console versions which is impossible for any multi platform game.

I doubt they would abandon consoles no matter how many PC units they sell. They have developed a system that allows them to develop for all platforms simultaneously - there would be absolutely no benefit for them to not release console versions even if they only sold a few thousand copies. The proof of the pudding will be when we get to see how well the game scales on the PC.

Of course level design will not scale so Crysis 2 will not be the glorious open world experience that Crysis was, the consoles just don't have the memory to cope with those environments. However I doubt Crysis 3 will come to the sXXXboxes, by the time it is released I would imagine next-gen consoles will be on the market.

The PC platform will be ahead at the beginning of the next console generation. But the gap will likely be the same between the high end PC's and the standard mid range anyway, so it won't be an issue.

Unless sony and M$ both go down the wii route, in which case multiplatforms will die.
