Ending of campaign a bit confusing...

Hey everyone, I havnt posted anything since game release and beat the game several weeks ago but never got around to asking this question. (sorry if already discussed, havnt been on in a while)

So at the very ending after Alcatraz destroys the final ceph core and saves the day it appears hes dead...but of course TADA!!! hes not, which honestly took me off gaurd but hey thats cool. During this cutscene Prophet finally gives you almost a debriefing of sorts and puts all the pieces together (for the most part) and tells you that "Our job isnt over" or something like that.

Then of course we have the army rushing in and the media going nuts then some general or someone important pops up on the comm link and wonders "who the hell is this!?"

Alcatraz stands up in his heroic pose and says "They call me "Prophet"..." in Prophets voice, so did I miss something? Did Prophet somehow take over Alcatraz's body and is now alive again in a way or is it that now hes kind of like a cortana of sorts to Alcatraz and can talk over radio and stuff? It just somewhat confused me and I wasnt too sure what just happened.

Care to share? Thanks guys.

There are a couple good threads on the story, plotholes and comparisons between C1&2, most were in the Crysis discussion forum, and one was in the PC forum. So if you want more info or background between the games check them out.

Prophet's consciousness is downlaod from the suit into Alcatraz. He is just a warmish body in the suit and the suit records everything that is happening to the person inside. That was what made more sense to me my 2nd play through when you see the sequence of Prophet killing himself even though you wake up afterwards. They explain later, I think its in Deadman Walking, that whoever wears the suit just becomes a walking corpse and the suit ends up taking over their body by regrowing the damaged tissue.

I dont know if he's talking over the radio in reply at the end or if isn't just more Prophet flash-backesque narration. I reckon that the protagonist being mute the whole game was pretty weak, just became Prophet's story really, with Alcatraz being a puppet

So does that mean if the host was to remove the suit then they wouldn't last very long? like the suit was sort of a drug? or if the human body became dependant on it?

I found it kind of svckish too that you were fighting pretty much on your own the whole time, no nano suit 2.0's to accompany you and hargreave could of sent some nanosuits against you as a boss or something.

Also I found the cloak guys at the end of the game severely svckish, in comparisent to C1's boss they svck cock, I just mowed them down with a 150 round belt off of an HMG.

You see Alcatraz got owned at the beginning, so the suit is the only thing keeping him alive, if you read the book also it says that the suit is breaking down all the organs he doesn't need and is merging them with the suit tissue. Prophets DNA and consciousness merged with the suit as well so you could say that they are kind of becoming one in a sense. The flashbacks are due to Prophets memory being inside the suit. The suit is taking over Alcatraz's body because it is so screwed up from getting hit by the gunship at the beginning. Alcatraz was only mute because of his lungs being completely screwed up from the gunship as well. Alcatraz is still the one controlling the suit it's just that the suit and him are becoming one due to symbiosis. It's pretty much implied he calls himself prophet using the recording from when Prophet killed himself and he insists to be called Prophet (stated also in the books) because they both share the suit.

That's how I understood it too. It's not like the suit suddenly developed a personality just to motivate Alcatraz.

My understanding of it was that Alcatraz was half dead after the gunship attack at the beginning. The only thing that kept him alive was the suit. His body was generally f*cked but his mind and heart were active enough for the suit to function.

The suit had pretty much downloaded Prophets conciousness at the point where he killed himself, but it was broken up and needed to be pieced back together. As you progress through the game you experience the memory flashes which represent those pieces. My theory is that Prophet is fully restored at the point where he is motivating Alcatraz, but he is still stored in the suits memory system. It is only when Alcatraz dies at the end that Prophet is re-installed. The suit has fully integrated itself with Alcatrazs body, including his brain, so that the suit and the body are one. That would facilitate Prophets reintegration.

I don't think Alcatraz being mute was specifically because of his injuries. He was mute in the opening sub sequence, which they tried to sweep under the carpet by suggesting he had a hangover. I thought that was incredibly lame. I felt mute Alcatraz was just laziness on Cryteks part. One of the reasons why I loved Crysis 1 was because the playable characters actually spoke and interacted with people.

The whole plot regarding Alcatraz is ambiguous, more so than I think was necessary tbh. I suppose it makes it fun to theorise, but frustrating as we lack a definitive ending. They can pretty much make up what they want for any future games :/

If you read Crysis: Legion, you find out that the suit is sort of merging Alcatraz and Prophet's personalities through its AI.

I never said it wasn't alive.............. I said that Prophets DNA and Consciousness have merged with the suit.

Alcatraz is mute because of his inguries, it says in the book. Plus in the sub he had a hangover and there was never he need to say anything.

Firstly I couldnt care less what the book says. Most people won't read it so they have to make their judgements based on the events that occur in the game. It's lazy storytelling to rely on books to fill in the blanks. Also, the book is based on their story, so if they decided they were going to be lazy and not have him speak, then of course the book is going to back that up lol.

Secondly, I've never been rendered mute by a hangover! lmao.

You can see as the game progresses that the suit is working on more then just absorbing the Ceph DNA structure...all the cut scenes showing shock at how alcatraz is only being kept alive by the suit, and without it he would be dead

The game also tells the story of how Prophet and his team, all had individual Nano Suits, that had a symbiotic relationship with its wearer....Prophets suit had already blended with Prophet, the suicide scene has the "remember me" line so it was clear we hadnt finished with him yet...the suit flashbacks told prophets story

For me the ending made sense, the Suits AI took over, all Alcatraz was by the end was the organic component of the suit...although I would have preferred the final line to say

"you can call us Prophet"...cos it kinda removes all that Alcatraz does in the game for Prophet to just say...hi honey, Im home

Yeah that would have made way more sense. As others stated before, I too felt that I was just working for Prophets goals and Alcatraz's character was thrown out the window, unlike in the original trailer that gave us the impression that we were gonna be a total badass that wanted to fight for answers. Not to run around for the sake of Prophet.

Thanks guys for some of the input, I hadnt even realized there was a book that filled the gaps! :P
