Crysis 2 Epic Fail?

Post » Tue Mar 24, 2009 8:30 am

This is my going to be my last post on this forum since I have just played my last game of crysis 2 online and I am going to sell it.

This game has epic graphics, arguably the best on console although thats probably the only best thing about it.

The story was very interesting and was told very well keeping you guessing write until the very end and still left you guessing, yet the gameplay of the campaign fell flat with mediocre AI, Countless bugs and being able to walk through the whole campaign on supersoldier in cloak. The campaign did not challenge my mind or skillset what so ever, there were no puzzles to work out, nothing stimulated my mind, you didn't have to work out anything it was all just cool particle effects on explosions and shooting.

One prime oppurtunity is on the mission * SPOILERS * where you have to defend off the Pinger so that the VTOL transports can take off, when you go into the spire to release the antidote into it there was a massive oppurtunity for a puzzle or something that you have to work out to release the antidote corrrectly. But instead you just sit back and watch a long ass cutscene while everything is done for you, Boring.

And the part where you have to jump onto the VTOL is not challenging either, Hold up on left stick, then press A, It all can be done with one hand. and where you have to press X to grab a ledge, it gives you a good five seconds to react in which you can stand up out of your seat do a 360 and a back flip then sit back down and press X. No challenge no mind stimulation no fun.

The multiplayer was, just an epic fail, I mean its fair enough to copy the Call of Duty gameplay formula, its okay its a proven formula. But you failed in the aspect of connections, the medicore connections ruin the experience and penalizes precision weapons such as semi automatics weapons and burst fire and rewards spray and pray fully automatics more.

Secondly the Weapon balance is very noob friendly, The Feline, SCAR and Scarab are the dominant weapons dealing the Highest damage per second, easiest guns to use in the game, and have the highest aim assist levels of all the weapons in the game, too noob friendly. ( Why would you sell out on your first multi platform game? :S ).

Thirdly is the Bugs, Way too many present to be called a final build, But these aren't just twitchy dead body bugs, there are many bugs affecting gameplay in a negative way. One prime example is where you depete your magasine of your primary then switch to your secondary while your primar you reloading.

Your character will spend so much time gltiching around and trying to reload your primary even though your secondary is out by which time is too late most of the time.

All in all I'd call this a Beta build. It got shipped too early, It just has too many bugs and untested Net code ( Heck it was due out last summer and it got delayed into march still ).

I would of waited another 3 months for a more or less bug free and less laggy online ( Even dedicated servers?.. ) but all in all I will give Crysis 2 5/10, Great looking game that has medicore mechanics and gameplay.

And on that note I bid you farewell forum - goers and Crytek.

I agree totally.

I loved the SP, the story, the character, everything. The dialogue was cool, so was the graphics and alien design. Like you said it's a shame that you can use cloak and run past almost EVERYTHING unless you were forced to fight.

Some people claim that you can choose to kill everything in your path, which you may choose to do, but IMO that is a false challenge. Why would I crawl to my local supermarket when I can walk or drive? There is no sense of achievement for completing SP as everyone can complete the campaign, a 3-year old could. Just press RB run to a hiding place, recharge, then press RB and run again. I'm currently playing through the SP on SS difficulty on SP but it feels pointless and masochistic. Might as well do a cloak run and get the "achievement" IF of course I don't get the glitch ad actually receive it.

I personally liked the ledge grabs and pressing A for the defibulator. I thought the SP is incredible, I really do, just a shame about f***ing cloak. I knew before buying the game from what I saw in their Dev Diaries that it was going to be a problem.

Connections are s**t, I can barely play the game anymore. I used to play for a few hours a day but now only 30mins to an hour at most because half the time I'm being kicked out of game, have s**t hosts, having to dashboard or restart my xbox and messing around with the party system. I just can't be bothered anymore. 50%+ of the time it is a negative experience and it's not because I'm a bad player, because I'm not.

I agree with the dominating three weapons and the high aim assist, unless your playing with a great connection/host and/or playing a noob team, then using a Grendel/Pistol Only/Shotgun/Sniper/k-Volt is a bad move. Even if the enemy was not aware of my presence then the moment I start firing the can turn to face me with the aim assist and wipe me out in seconds. I can go from 1 kd with a Grendel to 3-4 KD in the same game once I switch to Scarab. Stupid.

The amount of bugs on this game is absurd, the have taken the crown from Fallout: New Vegas. Fortunately FNV has had patches which has fixed the majority of problems and is now a fun experience. They communicated with their customers, but Crytek are apparently too f*****g self-important and pig-ignorant to lower themselves to speak to the many thousands of people across all platforms. They may not think that we are representative of the whole but I have many xbox friends that have never been to these forums and complained of the same thing as we are. NO-ONE is free from the bulls**t that frequent MP, and the people that say "I never have any problems", just go f*** yourself were not interested.

I feel disappointed but don't want to trade the game in yet, I want to see what Crytek will do first. I will perhaps wait about a month. If not I will trade it in and get another great game, there are so many great games coming out this year that Crytek is only hurting themselves by being ignorant.

I think you accidentally put a question mark at the end of the title

I find myself in the same boat. Honestly, I haven't even completed the SP campaign... I got bored with it and hearing about people not getting the SS achievement made me want to wait for a fix.

The MP is growing dull. Getting dropped on 8/10 host migrations and having to dashboard games where the matchmaking system has picked a host that's apparently in orbit kills it for me... I'm still trying to hit 50 and maybe reboot for achievements, but I don't see myself continuing past that.

I'm still going to hold onto my copy, but you can bet your ass I'm not buying ANY DLC until the game is stable.

If I manage to put up with the frustrations of the MP to complete my goal in time for Brink, I'll be happy. Soon as Brink is out, this gets shelved.
