Speaking of Cthulu...the videogame svcked. But people still buy it because the case looks creepy. It's funny how a book still gets judged by it's cover, and a videogame by it's back screenshots. Quality over quantity, but don't make something so highly qualified that it doesn't exist right? 'Cmon gamesas. Let's put SOMETHING out!
Call of Cthulhu was ok. The pace was slow and deliberate to establish the mood and reinforce the overall theme....not completely unlike Condemned 1 or Bladerunner back on the PC. A little heavy on the slow paced detective work for my tastes but if you're into story driven games....I wouldn't call this one bad. It kindov reminds me of the silent hill series. Too slow for me....but my wife loves them.
You know...I prettymuch throw Bioshock into that category as well. I think I'm the only person on the planet that just didn't like Bioshock much. The whole nano-shot thing was just a cheap excuse to throw 'magic' in under a different name....and magic is always lame. Anarchy Online did the same thing really. I think both of them would have been much better without that aspect....then of course you're cutting into the bottom line by alienating the scores of 'magic' loving gamers out there that always play wizard type classes etc. Oh well.
The games physics svcked. It felt like cutting in butter, frozen solid, with a cold and dull knife. I never made it passed the first town before giving up on it (and I tried hard).
