I've bought Fallout 2 on steam, but the game refuses to run Whenever I try to launch the game I get the fallowing error message :



It can't find the master datafile!

I've searched on the internet, and there seems to be a way to avoid this problem by messing with the instalation process. The problem is that I have no CD, I've have downloaded the game from Steam, I can't install the game at all, I can only download it. Fallout 1 runs fine though. I have tried to uninstall the game and download it again, but the error remains, I can't run the game at all

This should be fixed now. Delete your local files and reinstall the game.

Hello, I have this problem with the french version only. When I choose the English language, Steam downloads the game again and it works. If I choose french again (which will download the game once again) it doesn't work and I get the same error message.

While I can't help with the actual problem, I would suggest since you seem to be fluent in English to just play the american version. European versions were censored in various ways if I remember correctly, so if it re-downloads when you pick french I'd guess that you're downloading the "invisible children" version, which can be quite confusing in The Den when the invisible pickpockets steal your items.

It's working fine now, I have done anything but download again and again They must have updated the files,thank you for the info on the censor. If the censor is that bad, it might be a good idea to play it in english...
