Trilogy Bugs 2

Post » Mon Apr 13, 2009 2:49 am

im slowing finding bugs in fallout 2 from the new trilogy release. So far i've not been able to find a shotgun that works, other then cassidy's sawed-off (only the shotgun image is shown)
Also I pre-emptivly patrolled gecko before going to VC (which i believe i have done before with no problems) this time after telling him that i'll do the patrol, he makes no mention of the patrol he sent me on and i cannot therefor continue that quest.
My only other serious concern sofar is with Tactic's I find it hard playing with little to no sound effects :( and i do not have the where-with-all to go look for and download all the sound files i need. My internet barely handles this forum! anyways, Anybody else with the Canadian version having troubles or are they going to come to the conclusion that its My system haha

I'm not remembering clearly the problems you're talking about with Fallout 2. I haven't played through it extensively since getting the trilogy, but those problems sound like they could just be Fallout 2 being Fallout 2. IIRC, there were still some bugs and little inconsistencies even in the fully patched version of the game. The shotgun thing does sound a little... strange though. I'm pretty sure I've found a shotgun or two in my play through of the trilogy disc version.

As for FT:BOS, like I said in the other topic, I believe you're out of luck there until gamesas either issues a patch including the missing files, or you can somehow find yourself a copy of the original discs and extract the sound files that way. I remember I used to see new "value" packed copies of Fallout Tactics (basically 3 discs in a jewel case) at Futureshop for $5 - $10... but that was some time ago. Admittedly that's a band-aid solution as the whole point of buying the trilogy for me was to not have to try to track down all my old Fallout discs whenever I wanted to play them. Truth be told, I'm not overly concerned about it as I'm really only interested in Fallout 1 and 2 anyway, but it would be nice to have Tactics working properly as well.

Yeah this is probably my 3rd time purchasing the set, fallout 2 in particular. i do remember the original had the odd glitch, like the redding caravan's not usually being there for instance, this shotgun thing is new, and apparently only to me so far. i've reinstalled a few times (trying to get BOS sound) with same problem. i read something about sfall being included. im not sure about what that is, but perhaps its the cause of my VC patrol quest issues?? I liked bein a patrol-man for VC =( perhaps its only due to my patroling before talking to him... but i dont think so... I've unfortanatly givin up onTactic's im on the third mission but i quit and go back to fallout 2 when it feels too quiet (which is often :( ) Looks like a cool game when it works tho
I remember finding another small problem on my fallout 2 adventures. but apparently it was small enough that i've forgotten what it was. That shotgun thing kinda svcks. still works for your npc's and such. You just can't fire it. I don't see myself purchasing anymore fallout copy's anymore. apparently, we rush out the copies without checking to make sure they work first. and it is yet to be determined if these solutions will be solved.. So now i'm stuck cursing the once-it's-open no-return policy, i bought a defective product! and i can't get it fixed!

Actually, on second thought, in terms of fallout 2 what you're describing does sound like it could be a problem with the sfall script not working correctly with killap's patch (quests getting munged around, not being able to complete them properly, odd bugs, etc).

A couple of things to try.

Make sure you turn off any compatibility mode settings you might have turned on for the fallout 2 executable.

Make sure the game is not installed under "Program Files" if you're running vista or w7 (try installing it to C:\gamesas\Fallout Collection\Fallout2 or something along those lines)... vista and w7 admin privileges do not tend to play nicely with pre vista games.

In all honestly though, with Fallout 2 being such a massive game (in terms of viable options, etc), there are still some goofy things that can happen throughout the game. You could also try reloading from a couple of saves back and see if that corrects the issue. In my experience with the Trilogy disc, I've played the whole way through Fallout 2 in a bit of a speed run/marathon session, and I didn't notice any bugs that stuck out particularly as "strange".

If all else fails, head over to NMA (http://www.nma-fallout.com) and try posting your questions in the "Fallout RPG Gameplay & Tech" forum. There are members there that are certainly more versed in Fallout 1 and 2 troubleshooting than I am.

Hey thanks . Iapolagize for for my angry ranting. just late nite frustration im sorry. My Quest issue was apparently a complete blunder on my part. And that quest works just as it should.
Try starting a new game, and stealing a shotgun from Metzger in the Den, try using it. Your standard double-barreled shot gun, worth around 800 bucks or so. No matter where i find one, its the same un-fireable weapon. :?: not a HUGE deal. i can get by without it. besides. i like Cassidy's sawed off shotty better :D
Im really crossing my fingers and hoping for a tactic's patch soon. hopefully it's not too many Megs for all those sound files.. im almsot ready to look up programing on the net and find a way to get the 1 gunshot sound i seem to have to shoot for all guns haha
