I'd say a patch could fix that problem as gamesas has once fixed Descent of its "Borland Days" with a patch so that it could run on Pentium II's and higher. Though that was a hardware patch a software patch shouldn't be too bad to program. The real question for the company is right now is the true worth of doing so. Show them how big the fan base is such as Fallout and you may see such a patch or new game of Redneck Rampage all together.

For now though I'd stick with the compatability tab under properties of the link with vista (have it set to Windows 95) or use a DOS emulator such as dosBOX and install the game. Image

You can always setup a Virtual PC with Windows 98 on it to play some other classic games.

I've done it myself, and it really isn't all that hard. Unfortunately, I accidentally made my Windows 98 HD with 150GB.

Virtual PC is one idea but a dos emulator is much easier to get a hold as its free. Virtual PC is free but you still have to have a legit copy of Windows to install and why emulate a whole other windows system when all you need is good ole simple dos? Study up all of your options before jumping in.

P.S. For your 160 GB Windows 95, Just go through virtual pc and to the hard disk selection. You should be able to resize the hard drive. Image

Hi all...
I know this may soun a little silly, but due to having Windows XP I really am finding it somewhat impossible to play the all time classics...
Funnily enough, I am able to play VIETNAM: Black Ops without a problem, but of recent, I am dying to play Redneck Rampage. Is there a patch or something available to play this game without having to recreate a Windows 95/98 HDD on my existing system?
If there is a patch available, where is it and what do I need to do?

Thanks heaps...

This is also the same with XP.

What that does is makes XP/Vista tell the game in the sense that its another windows OS. So if you choose Windows 95 it will disable certain features (of XP/Vista) and tell the game its actually running on Windows 95 and not XP/Vista (though it is). This does not fool all of the the old games so it will not work for all games. Over all though its the first step before moving on. Image

I think a remake would be good for both redneck rampage and rides again on win xp and vista

You are correct, Vivendi Universal currently owns the rights to the game. So far they have no intentions of making a new one. Also for kicks gamesas only published this title. Xatrix Entertainment were the guys behind the original two games.

Also from doing a little research to get the information I did get (also from experience of the game). I have also found that there is a Vesa 2.0 Patch lurking around for the game made by the great Ken Silverman (Ken's Labyrinth anyone?) which updates the build engine to play correctly under NT/2K/XP. To further help the lazy folks hehe...

http://advsys.net/ken/build.htm Scroll just a tad til you see the section titled, VESA 2.0 patch for Windows NT/2000/XP (09/21/2002)

For those that want a direct link of the file... http://advsys.net/ken/nolfb.zip

It's best to check out Ken's site though to get all the information on his patch especially on installing it correctly. I don't want to copy paste the section on here because I don't feel its proper for a forum or Ken himself.

Anyways there ya go :D Image
