Icewind Dale

For me one of the best c.roleplay. I loved it for the ultimate climate, for me better than baldur's. Especially enjoy the place where game is put in wirtual world. Those ice mountains, continous gale and generally everything that game offer is damn good ! By the way I recommend to everyone who don't get closer to the books the trliogy of Icewind Dale. You enjoy that. ;) I hope that some day in even quite nearly future, third part of this wonderful game will "catch sight of daylight". ;) the best movie in the world ;P http://pl.youtube.com/watch?v=6BV4slil-HQ

If there ever will be an IWD3, it won't be by gamesas. They no longer have the D&D license. The Vault - Fallout Wiki * Fallout Online * Fallout IRC Channel * Fallout: New Vegas

I hear ya, i loved IWD. Alot more then i liked BG. Can't say the same for the second game though. But i'd like a IWD3. =)

Reason is i liked the more Dungeon crawler gameplay of IWD, and the fact that i got to make all my characters myself. So i could minimize it to 3. I don't like having to manahe a party of 6. Yes i didn't have to in BG either, but it was all part of the story to have people join you.

Thank fully. gamesas makes better IP than D&D. The only purpose D&D Ip was used is an attempt to get the DnD Pen and Paper players. I would rather play FO and I am a Pen and Paper gamer. today. Though I would like to see another good Fantasy RPG from gamesas. They are damnd good at it.

Even if they did do another Fantasy RPG, they would building from scratch. The various DnD games were built on a game engine done by Bioware. Another license they don't have. It also didn't keep the same feel and beuty once it became a 3d engine for NWN. Though it did a good job for KoToR.

IWD was the first IE game I've played. It still ranks among my favorite RPGs. Sure, the story is weak compared to BG1&2, but the game has a certain feeling that is missing in the other 2.

IWD and BG are two different games. I love both but in a different way. IWD games are more of a classic dungeon crawler with a party of your own and the BGs are more story driven.

Anyway, I prefer the art and design (and gfx and sfx) of the IWD games than the BGs.

Sadly, the development studio who made these games (Black Isle Studio) no longer exists, and most of its employees (if any) no longer even work for gamesas.

I may be getting forgetful in my old age, but I thought NWN used the Aurora Engine rather than the Infinity Engine? Unless Aurora is the 3d version of IE?

First of all, as you said, "various DnD games", trully, weren't built on a game engine done by Bioware. The first studio was SSL with their brilliant Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor, later was Westwood with Eye of Beholder, later Black Isle and today (after pack years) Bioware.

Second, ofcourse whole NWN's uses Aurora, but various versions. And ofcourse Aurora is next version of 2nd IE.;) the best movie in the world ;P http://pl.youtube.com/watch?v=6BV4slil-HQ

The Infinity Engine powered Planescape: Torment, as well as the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale series. I think he may be refering to those titles.

Also, if my memory serves me well, the Infinity Engine was co-developed by Bioware and Black Isle, not entirely done by the canadian outfit.

Well at least you got the 1st studio correct...however the 1st game goes back a lot farther, try Pool of Radience, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades, and 3 or 4 others made for the Commadore 64.

Sounds like it would be a blast. I however can not get either this game or Torment to install. Disks will load, and the screen pops up, i click on install and everthing goes away. Any ideas on how to get them to install? Running Xp still. :x

<_< I can get ID2 working on Vista with no problems. <_<

Yeah so Atari has the AD&D 3.5 license. :P That doesnt mean gamesas can't go to WOC and get AD&D 4th.

4th edition, as i heard and read, svcks pretty much, so why should it have its licence bought? There is no room for '2' in the world of 1's and 0's, no place for 'mayhap' in a house of trues and falses, and no 'green with envy' in a black and white world.

It's a very different game from 3.5, but I wouldn't say that it svcks. That's a little too harsh. I think people were a little shocked at just how much they changed. And I think some of the, erm, flavor of D&D was sacrificed at the altar of (game) balance.

But it's the best tactical combat version of D&D that's ever been produced, in my opinion. Players can work together to do some very nifty combos.

It wouldn't have done as well as it did if it wasn't D&D saleswise, but people would have been far more forgiving. If you ever get a chance, try a game. It's fun. Just really different.
