[DISCUSSION]Strength

What advantages/skills/perks/traits should a character receive from Strength?
I think it's pretty Obvious that a Strength Dominant character would be prone to being a heavy hitting melee powerhouse, but just determining how hard you hit would be an incredibly boring application of this attribute, so I'm trying to think up some more skills and abilities like
PUSH - When you push someone weaker (with less strength)than you, they get knocked backwards and temporarily off balance. The greater the variation in strength, the further they go flying.
GRAPPLE - By grappling with your oponent, you both prevent them from aiming a weapon at you and prevent them from moving around, of course you can't aim or move around either.
TAKEDOWN- Attempt to knock an opponent completely off thier feet, but if they dodge your takedown you become off-balanced
DOOR SMASH- No key? No problem! With this ability you use your brute strength to breakdown the door. Since your using your body as a weapon, you take damage each time you attempt door smash, not to mention it can attract unwanted attention

Passive traits include increased Carry weight, less likely to be disarmed, and the ability to use a wider variety of heavy weapons

As stated in Endurance Threat

Shouldn't Strength make armor easier to wear? I'd say let all heavy armor types have a calculated speed penalty and let high Strength decreases this penalty. This way everyone can wear heavy armor, but only those with high strength can maneuver properly with it and move as fast as those in light leather. This might also solve people going for 3 strength and praying to reach 6 with power armor on, since being 'slow' decreases survivability, with low strength Power Armor simply won't be the best choice anymore.

Alot of weapons had strength requirements in previous versions of fallout, but Power Armor gave you additional strength.

The only thing I have used str for, during the 10'is years I have played Fallout games, has been mainly for the carry weight. Because I hate leaving things behind no matter how little it's worth. I will even go so far as to writing up each items name, weight and price/kg, so when I do finaly end up hitting the weight limit I know which items are worth holding on to. :P

I normaly get atleast a level of str where I will have str 10 with power armour.

As for how to be able to use str in other places... how about being able to move around stuff, or lift stuff in general... like being able to move a large rock out of the way to get into a cave or something.

I like the door smash ability. I think its a good idea to give certain abilities to people with specified levels of SPECIAL and in this case strength. I could also see it adding different melee abilities along with the ability to move certain things to your advantage. Mostly what I and a lot of other people have used strength for in the past would be for the weight limit on items. That should definitely have a role in this game.

but power armor should only be wearable if the player have a special perk, given by a PA trainer. (also one would need to have a certain amount of str) Image

STR Requirement for power armor? How do you justify that? Power armor is powered armor. It lifts itself. The reason you got a strength BONUS in previous games is because the armor doesn't weigh you down, it lifts FOR you. This isn't even specific to Fallout. You guys aren't being fallout noobs, you're being total sci-fi noobs.

There could be penalties for weaker characters in OTHER heavy armor, but power armor, I say no.
Bonuses? Yeah, I could see being more maneuverable in heavy armor, including power armor, if you're stronger.

Yes, I agree. Power armor is mechanical in nature such that it allows you to be stronger by using its own power sources, not yours. So to have strength determine power armor use seems odd to me.

Maybe more along the lines of power armor allows for heavy guns and super sledges, but without power armor you need higher strength to use these items. And then just have a speed and/or agility penalty for using a strength enhancing power armor. Image
