I'm having exactly the same problem. The only fixes I can find lead me to download a 'pirated' cd cracker. If I wanted that, I would not have purchased the game in the first place!

We have been unable to duplicate this problem. The game installs on all of our machines and plays without the CD error message with no CD in the drive. We've tried to duplicate the issue using additional information provided by others customers, and have been unable to get the same error.

We're still trying to find a solution, but until we see the exact same error, it's hard to say what is causing the problem.

Any information you can provide might be helpful.

I'll write up a very specific walkthrough of the installation procedure and add it to this post.

Vista Installation of Fallout Tactics (Fallout Trilogy 2009 edition)

1. Insert the DVD into the DVD-rom drive.

2. Left-Click "Run Setup.exe" on the AutoPlay window.

3. Left-Click "Allow" if required.

4. On the gamesas FALLOUT Collection Setup screen, left-click (okay, just "click" from now on) "Next".

5. Click "I Agree" on the License Agreement window.

6. Click the "Fallout" and "Fallout 2" boxes until they are empty. We're only installing Fallout Tactics at this time.

7. Click the plus sign next to Fallout Tactics and make sure that both "Fallout Tactics" and "Fallout Tactics Core" have a green checkmark.

8. Click "Next".

9. Leave the destination folder alone (i.e., "C:\Program Files\gamesas\") and click "Install".

10. When installation is completed, click "Next".

11. Click "Finish".

12. Remove the DVD from the drive.

13. Click the Start menu -> All Programs -> gamesas folder -> Fallout Tactics icon to launch the game.

If you follow these instructions, and it doesn't work, please let me know.

Thanks!

@ Fallouts?Chris

your instructions only work if you have bought the fallout/fallout 2/fallout tactics 3 in one game.
i'm assuming that chillie54, much like i did on saturday, just bought the plain fallout tactics PC dvd

i'm also have the same problems as chillie54, the only difference is that i bought the game on saturday.
i did however start the game without the disk in, and it said insert disk 2. i put the only disk supplied in and it crash my system!

what is going on?!

As far as I know, gamesas never released a stand-alone Fallout Tactics DVD. The original release was on three copy-protected CD-ROMs, which required disc 1 in the drive to play.

I did a check on mobygames, and the only clear DVD release was a magazine DVD from Germany.

If you're having a problem with disc 2, it sounds like you have the CD-ROM release. Is that correct?

I did some research and the only "insert CD" problems I found were for the Fallout Collection DVD and torrented versions. I could not find any mentions of this problem for the original CD release. Without being able to duplicate the problem, my suggestions are limited. Sorry!

Fallouts Chris,

like the other guys, I bought the PC-DVD version of the fallout collection. This was purchased from EB Games, in Brisbane, Australia. I'm confident they don't deal in pirated material of any kind. I'm disappointed that I purchase a game and it doesnt work. Yet I hear it is quiet easy to pirate it and it does work!

Josh

PS fallout 1 does not ask for the CD. I followed your installation instructions and still get the same problem for fallout 2 and tactics.. I'm running an i7 rig with windows 7 ultimate 64bit. I have also tried it on my dell laptop, and get the same problem.

Please can someone do one of the following, as I bought the game and it does the same thing =(
Post how to fix this problem.
Post a link to a working no cd patch
Or post a link to a site that you can download it from without needing the cd to run.

Thanks!

The dvd in question is sold by EB games in Australia. It lists on the back that it's the European version and in the fine print that it's distributed by Virgin Interactive Entertainment. DVD structure is essentially CD 1 with 2 and 3 foldered as such. The presale bonus mission, 1.27 patch and manual in the bonus folder etc. I would guess there is a few files from CD 1 missing that is causing the problem. I'm about to go digging for my CDs to check.

I bought my DVD disc for fallout tactics from EB games and it doesnt work. Did they actually sell a pirated game? Same problem happens with me, DVD in the drive, "Please Insert CD". Used alot of no-cd patches but none of them seem to work! Could gamesas realease a patch to not have to use the CD? Games like warcraft have done this. It would probably help alot.

The last post was a few months ago and still there hasnt been any help for the DVDs?

Thanks!

Same problem here with the Fallout Collection DVD. Fallout Tactics won't do anything else than prompt "Please insert a fallout tactics CD". It happens in both my PC (win XP) and laptop (win 7).

The version I have autoplays with an index.html file with some legal information and after pressing the "I agree" form button, shows the 3 games. After the selection of Fallout Tactics, it just runs the setup.exe from the root of the DVD.

During the installation it prompts for full, medium or small installation, I usually choose full and once small, then I skip GameSpy Arcade and re-installation of DirectX 8.0a.

Some extra information:
1. my laptop is a Sony Vaio VPC-CW2S1E with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
2. the DVD is labeled in the properties as FOC_DVD
