Interplay's FreeSpace Logo

Post » Thu May 14, 2009 8:10 pm

The ship on the front page logo isn't from FreeSpace, it's actually from one of the user-made mods for FreeSpace created by fan.

Any explanation as to why it's there?

I think I know why, but I won't say anything until I get confirmation (which will take a week or so, the artist is on vacation.)

Funny story, that.

Can't wait to hear it. There's some amusing speculation going on.

It's not a bad image for an inferno ship. I think i'll show the real one though.

Not bad what the iplay artist did to make the screenshot even cooler. Even though, this is a screenshot from a user mod for freespace 2 called inferno.

Apparently the iplay artist did have an eye for the amazing talent of the inferno work. Either way, it's user made content appearing on the iplay home page. Does this have any ramifications? I can't think of any, but i got that feeling that there is. I don't think iplay should use scp enhanced and fs2 open engine enhanced screenshots either way for advertising.

well there would be nothing wrong with them promoting the fact that there is a vibrant modding community for the game. though they obviously should not be trying to misrepresent the game it's self. though I doubt that's what happened, it's probably an honest mix up and that shot was for something else (like the previously mentioned fact that there is a strong and vibrant modding community). in any event I do want to hear the story behind it :) probably very funny.

BTW I've noticed there were a few newbs freaking out about the above image, if any of these hyperactive twits says something stupid, please laugh at them for me. as someone who was heavily involved with FSO for a good seven years and was one of the most prolific modders for FS2 at one time, I'd just like to say welcome back to the world of the living. :)

Oh, and just FYI, I'm on the Inferno team (I'm making the missions) so this is of particular interest to me.

Thanks for the reminder. I'll ask the artist now that he is back from vacation.

EDIT: Okay. I finally remembered to ask about this. Sorry for the delay.

It was mistakenly added to a list of images for Freespace and the artist incorporated into the logo for the website because it was the best image from the lot that he had.

Chris, would you be able to credit the makers of that image (HLP) next to the pic?

I can ask the artist. How should it be credited exactly?

Maby a link to HLP below the pic, nothing to fancy. or a Hyperlink to Hard Light, with HLP as text.
HardLight or Infero R1 or Inferno R1

It was Woomeister (Steven Woosey) for the most part, but other people had a hand in its creation as well.

Well i think a simple general credit to HLP would be best.
We dont mean to be picky, by all means, use the pic. We just think a simple credit would be nice, if its not too much problem.
