Fallout Trilogy on Steam?

Post » Sun May 17, 2009 7:39 am

Hello.
I'd just like to write, about asking that you should put your Fallout trilogy to Steam.
I know it can be downloaded from a lot of other places, DRM-free and all, especially recently Good old Games has probably the best deal for them,
But I'm a person who loves Steam. I think a lot of other people would also love to have this masterful trilogy on Steam(or atleast the first 2 games).
So I hope you guys at gamesas read this and think about it.
The Steam community is growing really fast, a lot more people are starting to use it, and buy games from there.

steam is a great service. ive used it for a very long time now and bought a lot of games on it. it does the job really well even if they added those crappy browsers to it. its a bit slow now, but still. you get updates without any pain(unlike i had with battlefield!), you can download any games so the disk is useless, the games are usually cheaper too, and i like the fact that with one account i can access all my games.(well, most of). plus have you seen how many people use it? i think it would sell a lot of copies but eh, good old games does a great job too. So youre telling me FO3 is better than the first two? Okay i respect your opinion. Can we step outside for a sec?

Steam is wonderful, and especially for older games.

I find myself downloading older and cheap games from time to time, but if I had to go to the store to check for the same games I probably would never have bought them.

Steam is great for the studios I belive - many people buy games on Steam for old time's sake, because it is convenient or simply because they finally are available again. From a financial point of view the studios won't have to pay for production, wrapping, shipping or physical distribution; they simply push out old code and still make money on it.

Steam is here to stay and while any studio probably would prefer their own system so that they don't have to share the revenues with anyone, Steam has become such a brand in itself that investing in own similar systems probably won't be worth it in the end. ---------------------

Daimyo I would have to disagree with you.

Fallout 1,2, and Tactics are all available starting at http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/fallout and going from there.

Good Old Games has been providing the Fallout games (besides the One Which Shall Not be Named) for several months now, and they've sold quite well. gamesas, I'm sure, has received a healthy amount of money via Good Old Games, so yes, using other outlets besides Steam pays off.

I will agree that Steam is the best platform to sell games on, however. I'm sure gamesas is looking into it, but the difference is on GOG the staff of GOG provides the XP/Vista support themselves, and if gamesas puts Fallout on Steam they might have to come up with that compatibility, which would take resources (however not much in the long run) away from P13.

Just a few thoughts on the matter, hope this explains things a bit to you guys, and for those of you who were unaware that you can already buy the FO trilogy online at $5.99 a piece, there ya go.

Well I know it would do them better, but their not forced to make it officially Vista-compatible, to make it availible on Steam.
Good ol' games is a wonderful service, I just prefer having all of my games in one convinient place(Steam), that especially goes for old or indie games.
Well will be hoping that they will eventually bring it there.

Good points, CymTyr.

Thank you for expanding my view on this; I was not aware of the support issues for instance :)

People should use this opportunity for what it is worth though; I have the games in boxed editions already, but if I did not I'd be buying them for sure; I still replay them all from time to time and it puts a smile on my face every time :) ---------------------

Actually the official marketplace for Fallout Trilogy is Metaboli which you can buy all three games for just $19.99. Now as of having it on steam or even others such as already GoG, I say go for it! As mentioned before just because you don't like it doesn't mean you have to use it as there is other store fronts as the two mentioned prior. It's about giving not only the people the choice but also the comfort of their liking of whom to download with. In turn this could mean more profit is turned over in the end. And for such a classic series they need to get copies of it out there. Cause face it. The new generation doesn't know of Fallout the way we do, but don't be ashamed. Its not gamesas's fault. ;) Image

Most games that are not "vista-compatible", I can get running some how, some way. But the matter at hand here (being a computer tech) Vista is by far even a stable OS. I have a theory on it comparing it to Windows ME as both are just place holders to give MS time to get on with the next actual release. In this case is Windows 7. Windows 7 was in production along side of Windows XP as Blackcomb. This means Windows 7 is as old if not older than Windows XP as of code. Windows 7 was still not ready under their new vision of the OS to be released so they had to use a place holder. They take some features from Windows 7 and slap together some very shoddy code with (think of a sloppy joe here) and they called it Vista! SP1 saved it for the most part to make it a little more useful but seriously it just a half a**'ed programed OS. Windows 7 will have much better compatibility and I'm even currently using the beta which truly proves my theory as it is even more stable then the Vista SP1.

Vista even means, An enclosed view, usually long and narrow. That view was always sited on 7.

Anyways sorry for the off topic here but Vista always grinds me when I always knew the truth of Windows 7 before and after it. Image

uhm .... might wanna give hem guys at valve a call.

gamesas isn't on the list of publishers and that supplied link to the gamesas list is a dead end.

personally i got my copy of freespace 2 off GoG and i plan to buy replacement copies of the fallout games ( the GOOD fallout games ) from there too. ( when i get money flowing in faster than it flows out. )

IMO steam is over-priced and over-hyped .... hay, "OC" ..... i got something for ya right here! _|_ (^.^) _|_

Great news about the steam release, and to top it off I just checked steams "top sellers" tab and the FO trilogy is in 2nd place right under left 4 dead. Talk about staying power.

I agree, support and multiplayer through Steam is terrible. By far the worst multi client ever... almost as bad as Gamespy! I've noticed that Steam does take alot of rescources as well, quite ineffective to always have it running when you play Steam games. With that said, for distribution reasons alone, it by far surpasses any other client out there. Easy to acquire games, automatic updates, easy to sign on for Beta's and Easy for developers to push their products to a massive audience. Hopefully gamesas is here to stay this time!
