Though I haven't had the fortune to play Fallouts 1 or 2 yet, yet being the operative term, I have seen full walkthroughs of each. And I must say, Fallout 3 is not AS good as it's predecessors, though a good game for those interested in the series.
Probably because Bethesduh tried to repair something that wasn't broken.

I agree, though first person is nice, the isometric POV was way better. I would rather click a few times than spend half my fights aiming for somewhere on the body that takes decent damage. As far as the rest of the game goes I think they made the skills more idiot-proof and streamline by basically combining all related skills under one skill, traps and repair became repair and so on. Before anyone says anything to my gripe about the comment about combat with "But they had VATS and that made it easy," if you use VATS you're a glutton for punishment unless you use it in an open area and the chance is 95% because otherwise you're probably going to either miss or they'll get behind cover.

That is all,

I dont hate f3, I'v played 1,2 tactics and I enjoyed playing fallout 3 very much, BUT f3 is nowhere near as good in story as the old games and frankly, the gameplay in f3 is too easy, shotgun to the head will kill anything no matter what armor they have :/

But I liked playing it, I dont hate it. But there are a lot of flaws about it. I don't like that they reused so much of old story, like the president, enclave, a vat dipping center and I don't like how EVERYTHING revolves around you, it's like you are the single person in the entire world who can actually do something and everyone else is just dead weight :/

But the game is good. Image

I liked F3. it is a good game. storytelling and characterization were not its strong points, but it certainly was a beautifully rendered world with some fun shooting gameplay.

Fallout 1 & 2, however, transported me into the world in a way other games bearing the name have not -- particularly in the way the characters are written, the depth and breadth of the world and its many locations, the quests and storyline, and all the little details -- oh, the details. the developers of fallout 1 & 2 so loved the details :)

Fallout 3 was good but was not Fallouty enough.

They did a good job all things considered. However the result was different enough to be noticed by die hard fans.

Fallout 3 is not technically an gamesas product.

as someone who played quake3 for 4 years and both fallout 1 and 2 i must say i did enjoy fallout 3. i loved the 1st person, the blurry vision when you came out of the vault for the first time and saw the "beautiful" landscape that was ahead etc. i started a game from scratch just to explore as much as possible in fallout 3 and enjoyed it quite alot, the capital wasteland was very well done imo.
F3 WAS a great game really and it did deserve game of the year but you cant compare f3 to f1/2 too much, start looking ahead instead and we'll all try to make fallout online the best there is with the best of every fallout game instead of spending too much time trying to decide which game is best and why this game isnt as good as that one etc etc.. In gaming terms... Life's a die, then you bich.

I love Fallout 3 and in my mind most of the fan hate is caused by that little 3, it gives the impression this is a direct sequel to two very different old games, if Bethesda had called it just "Fallout" or had some under title like "Fallout: Capital Wasteland" it be much more better received since it would stand on it′s own.

kinda why New Vegas already earned some + points (well besides having a story that finally proper neutral at the get go and fixing majot complain)

I do like FO3... but I would place it at 4th place after the 3 original FO's (1/2/T).

Actually everythng is simple.
Fallout 1 and 2 are so great games that even after year or two it surprises you.
Fallout 3 is a good gamem but it is not "The Fallout", it's more like fantasies of someone who likes exploding heads in the world of Fallout *smiles* Image

I agree that Fallout and Fallout 2 is better than Fallout 3 story-wise, and in pretty much every category. I started with Fallout 3 as well. Don't get me wrong, I think Bethesda did a damn good job with Fallout 3 and bringing it back, the atmosphere is great, but the game lacks the depth, dark humor, ect. that gamesas added in, which is why I prefer the first two. What pizza restaurant is the best? the one at the corner of course. That's why everyone goes there.
Then there is that pizza restaurant by the circle, makes okey stuff but just don't give you that MMMMHMMMM!!! feeling.

Some of you mentioned that F3 storytelling was extremely poor. So there wasn't a single place around the game that would make me do anything unexpected, dialogs where as poor as... i don't know- casual speach.. There were no minigames :/ such as going to fight in the ring as in F2 or some items made just to fit in one place around the game. And the conclusion i made after playing it for a while- that Bethesda made every shortcut possible, unfortunately no good thing is made easily. So i wish gamesas pays attention to details, and those are usually not in graphics but all kind of interactions with the environment- such as burned sign tells a lot about the location and etc.

Why does nobody mention Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel for the Xbox and PS2? It was kind of a flop as far as fallouts are concerned (Story, Detail, Char Development, ect...) and it was made by gamesas! I think FO3 is a Great perspective of the Fallout Universe! I’m looking forward to New Vegas as it takes the same engine as FO3, some of the original developers, (coincidence... I think not) and a lot of sweet New Ideas that will make it just as good as or better than FO3. If you’re raving so much about FO 1-2 go make the Van Buren Project a reality. Because it has the old feel to it. But in my opinion let’s continue on with technology and graphics please!

I really like all 3, Of course 3rd isn't as good as the other two in the already started by others departments. But it does give a nice view for new people to get into Fallout. But of course the voice work.. has no excuse in my opinion..
If I was god.
Fallout 3 Would have been called Fallout: East Coast, They would have remade Van Buren and called it Fallout: West Coast 3. I wonder what New Vegas would be called in that dream world though... i can only imagine..

I HATED Fallout 3's combat. All it was, was run backwards, VATS, shoot, repeat. And it could've been a little more realistic looking, I though it would be scarier. But it wasn't bad at all. It entertained me and I did make three different guys.

F3 has enough elements from f1/f2 to make it a great game. I really like it , but still, f1 and f2 can't be outclassed by anything out there right now.
Fallout was the first (original CD) game I had, after i bought a computer :D The Intro on F2 was just epic for me :!:
