If you only got to keep one thing from the old games..

what would it be? In other words, what's your favorite "thing" from the old Fallouts that you really want to see in Fallout Online?

I would choose the karma system.

Depth, no matter if it be combat depth, plot depth, just depth.

I want something incredibly complicated to waste my time on.

I think the karma system could play a huge role in PvP.

Short of creating factions in game (ala WoW), there needs to be a way to deter PKing outside 'contested areas' (possible PvP resource areas) while still offering players the chance to be raiders and live outside the laws of civilized areas.

Only one thing? Hmmm.... I think a better question would be "What could we get rid of, and still have it be fallout?" "I don't want to set the world on fire...."
That would be pretty redundant at this point

Well, it had depth, so again, any way they want to implement that depth THIS time.

Figure the combat will this time around based solely on the type of game it is, you don't have to if you don't want to.

really i dont recall any depth in FO1/2 combat, unless you mean the depth of my frustration while pulling my hair out thinking FU FU! FU!! i SAID KEEP YOUR DISTANCE AND DOOOOOOO NOOOOOOT BRRUUUUUUUUST (yes when i am angry i think in bold)

really the only depth FO1/2 combat had was in the amount of exploits you could find, like locking the doors abusing the awful path finding or just save/load until critical "play" (i hate those)
because its basically a tactical combat without no tactics unless you count timing everything as tactics (in this case your sense of tactics is ... )

I would have to say my favorite thing about Fallout 1-2 would be NPC pvssyr, dark humor, and the narrative. Ok you got me that is three, but who cares right? Also I miss aiming for the groin and eyes to read the funny text.

One thing? This is SOOOO easy.

After marathons of playing any of the Fallout games.. I would actually see and think this in real life.

Scavenge Scavenge Scavenge!

Oh look.. a corpse.. let's check it's pockets!

Oh lucky me.. a ghost town.. let's see what i can dig up!

Scattered crap (or not so crap) loot adds so much to the game. Hell, this could actually become a full time job for someone in game... junk merchant.

Yeah I played Fallen Earth for a while. I didn't do much else other than scavenging and exploring. Would like to see some benefits of being a Scav/exploring type character. Like bonus ammo find or something. Good suggestion NeoAcario

Cthulhu doesn't like these "only one thing" questions.... alas, Cthulhu will entertain this proposition:

Cthulhu will graciously attest that he would keep the ability for the player character to become a self sufficient, all powerful, power armor claden, Vengeance (or Plasma/Gauss Gatling Cannon), perk endowed, radiation immune, chem addiction ignoring, infinite bottle cap wallet-ed Scion of Justice (or Harbringer of Destruction)!

Cthulhu found this to be the most enjoyable aspect of the Fallout 1-3 titles. Cthulhu has always found them to be very endearing since they catered towards the player's inherent potential and brought it out in a glorious fashion... an awe inspiring Messiah type character or Devil of Nuclear Winter. Cthulhu felt this was a very core feature of Fallout since it boiled down to the ultimate point of the game... WHAT MATTERS IS WHAT THE PLAYER CHOOSES AND DOSE. Cthulhu felt these games catered so well to the audacity of a single being having capabilities beyond that of all others around themselves.

Cthulhu would be very saddened not to see the Fallout Online games attempt to recreate this... sensation of... self actualization; to be said, if Cthulhu does not see even a heartfelt attempt at such an offering from Fallout Online, Cthulhu would feel reserved to write it off as another product of useless, future meals. Cthulhu would be more than happy to be confined to the single player Fallout games than rather waste his time of dead but dreaming with such a hollow imitation of Fallout.

Cthulhu is used to being the "Great Dead" Priest of the Old Ones... thus, Cthulhu has come to expect that a Fallout game delivers on Cthulhu being able to enact on his urges to achieve awe inspiring might, charisma and followings in a game, as well as in reality.

Cthulhu feels that having the ability to become the most powerful would still be beneficial for the "other players"... since Cthulhu has always enjoyed being able to save the ailing team members of Cthulhu's band. Cthulhu however also enjoys the "weirdness" of being the utmost character, due to the fact that they can acquire... unique and interesting allies (Mutants, Ghouls, Brotherhood Templars, Enclave Robots, Talking Death Claws, Princely Raiders, etcetera.) in small parties (two to four allies for Cthulhu).

----------------------

(Cthulhu will freely admit that if he could chose two, he'd also include The Brotherhood of Steel since he has always had a penchant for such kinds of groups; it is an aespect of humanity that Cthulhu finds... most fascinating. Cthulhu purposes that it is perhaps due to the fact that such powerful, persuasive, and "righteous" organizations cannot actually exist within humanity. Cthulhu adds that he has yet to see any such organization, such that, Cthulhu would be delighted to see such a body spring to life... perhaps even if it be Cthulhu's own undoing. Cthulhu has digressed... enough.)

Great Topic, Braverobot :)

One thing,

Fun, fun and more intriguing fun.

Or basically all of the above rolled into one item. FUN.

Loved the hints, surprises, references, NPC comments, grit, the look the feel, the easy of jump in and play (interface), and most especially the close to non linear game story.

If I could keep one thing from the old games? It would be to have Dogmeat as my companion through the wastelands to aid me in fights and sniffing out food, water, and misc. items such as traps.

The dark humor was a big part of the fallout universe as stated above...

But I was a big fan of the tactical gameplay brought on by the turn-based system. Someone posted that F1/2's combat system lacked depth...

IMO-

Turn based combat is THE MOST in depth. It's like chess with little people! So if we keep anything, it's the turn-based combat system adapted for an MMO. Perhaps an update to the real time combat system in fallout tactics? At the very list, minimize the user's ability to spastically run, jump, duck, etc. using the action points system. I don't want a first person shooter. It detracts from what made the franchise a cult classic... which was ALMOST ruined by the 3rd fallout.... almost ruined.....

Just an opinion.....
