map ideas?

i dont know what about you guys but if had to point out one of the most annoying thing in FO, mostl likely it would be the maps (yes more than the NPC burst or the thieving little bastards in den or bugs)

in FO MMO, the world map would be much more important and probably some kind of minimap would be added as well to track all the ppl around, so i wanted to see if anyone has any concept for a map?
personally i hated the FO3 map design which was oblivion map (which was ok) only in green but may be its just me, because i prefer paper feel to my maps and less realistic style to it (yes i am a heretic)

so i would love to hear what your thoughts and concept for the V13 map?

ok my idea for a map come with game concept, for me a perfect FO world would be about different classes and them working together (similar to SWG), because without this cooperation the game will eventually die out.

in this case i was thinking about making something of the outdoors man skill and far cry came to mind, in far cry you need to scout the location before attacking, which adds points of interest in that location on your map and allows you to plan your attack, so why not make the guy with outdoors skill look there and share that information with the rest of the team?

any way here some concepts for such less realistic maps, with points of interest:

how to fit it with the pipboy and make it authentic, i dont know, maybe since we know all have pipboys we got a color screen upgrade or whatever, i do know that i hate the old maps (specifically the doted location maps that i didnt bother to post here)

Just have to add, there is no specification that we will start as vault dwellers (I'm pretty sure there are no info at least) and I hope we won't :P vault dwellers are somewhat rare and if there is an intact vault like v13 they don't let all their citizens out with pipboys which is a nice high-tech devise.

The vault dweller from f1 was the second one to ever leave the vault if I remember correctly and the chosen one from f2 had just inherited the old vault dwellers pipboy. So in my humble opinion we should start as people from different towns rather than vault dwellers, maybe from towns such as vault city but I am unsure of their usage of pipboys (don't think vault city citizens ever move outside of the walls >,<).

Not saying anyone is wrong, just putting in some of my ideas and what is wrong with normal maps :/

Gotta love the hide map.

Anythings possible really. You could start the game off with a hide map and upgrade all the way to a Pipboy. Each type adding additional features to mapping.

I truly hope we're not all walking outta the vault to start.

That's somewhat encouraging..... or I'm just looking to far into it?

good so this makes paper/hide/whatever maps a viable option, which in my view is more realistic and authentic.

now to the unrealistic game part, i want those points of interest shown, maybe its fits more to GTA style or a shooter but in my opinion those maps are just more pleasant and useful.

well, you could carry a pen with you, so you can dot places and name them and there could be an option to actually buy a pipboy (or something similar) in the game for a good price :P Image

the question is what the best data presentation method, the usual zoom able map with each zoom level layers showing different point of interest for each level (world map or local) and which things you want to see?

what is the best map you seen in a game?
