Gmail email address

Post » Sun May 31, 2009 6:47 pm

Greetings.

I was in the middle of updating my account information, but found that I could not change my email address successfully. When I attempted this process, I received the following error message: Excessive spam from emails formatted like this, please use another email address.

I was able to signup for the Fallout Online newsletter just fine with this address, but the forum software doesn't seem to like it. The address is for a gmail account. Image

I am still receiving the "Excessive spam from emails formatted like this, please use another email address." message when trying to change my email address for the forum here. Please advise. Image

If it's an urgent issue you might want to directly PM Chris about it, he's the only one who has access to that stuff and can give you a direct response.

He checks the forums too but I don't know how often this specific board is checked.

Just a note about what happened here. We have a spammer that likes to use gmail addresses formatted like this:

AAA.BBBB.CCCCC@gmail.com
AAA.BBBB.CCCCC.DDDDDD@gmail.com

And so on. We got flooded with spam messages from those emails, so we temporarily stopped allowing gmail emails with three or more periods in the address.

Bots I assume? You should look into upgrading the forum captcha to something like reCAPTCHA, very few bots are smart enough to crack it so it should stop most of them from even getting past the registration screen.
