Althought I do agree Kingpin did not gain strong recognition, it is truly the father of all games "Hood" (I.E. GTA/Mafia/Max Payne/Scarface). That having been said, I think recreating the game with an updated engine WOULD be IDEAL and would also allow a new generation of gamers to experience the world that is Kingpin.
Kingpin, if it were recreated and rereleased in todays market, would do far better than the first time around. Unfortunately for the first, it was released around the time the Columbine shootings occurred and major retailers (I.E. Walmart/K-mart/Target) stopped carrying violent titles for some time.
Kingpin also had so much replay value. The game was truly a social experience, as well as a gaming experience. The game had it all. Teamplay (TDM, BM) and singles competition (DM, and 1on1). The game just was not given a push, and as such, never gained a huge following like Counterstrike, which is unfortunate.
If a sequel to the game never comes to, so be it, life will go on. But if they re-release or do something with the license, WOW!! would the KP community come out of the woodwork! That being said, KP was truly a diamond in the rough and I am glad I got the chance to experience it and its community. Many games have come and gone for me, but it was KP that had me truly glued to the computer for hours upon hours still wanting to play.
Ten years have gone by, maybe its time to breath new life onto Kingpin! gamesas almost had a sequel started in 2004, but then it was cancelled. gamesas, as the saying goes: "Better late than never!"....make it happen!
