Is the combat system going to be realistic?

Post » Mon Jun 15, 2009 10:18 pm

For example, if you pull out a hunting rifle and shoot a ghoul square between the eyes, will he fall right over and die on the spot? Or will he lose health?

If you go up to a player with a combat shotgun and shoot him in the arm, is it going to fly off? Or will it just cripple?

If you whip out your pistol and shoot another player right in the heart, is he going to fall on his knees and start coughing up blood? Or will he lose a tiny bit of health?

You get the idea!

If it was a single player game that would work but 1 shots and arms flying off in mmo doesn't really cut it :/ maybe in PvE, or in the death sequence (critical hit in the arm - player dies and arm splatters).

I can just say that being able to kill someone with 1 shot ain't fun in a mmo :P at least I think so.

But having arms/head/legs/torso/the whole person blown up when he dies should definitely be there, especially since it exists in all other games (even F3 :P). Image

If all other games jump off of a bridge should this one follow? I'm hoping this game will be different.

Mature people don't need blood, guts and gore to to enjoy a game.

I'm hoping that the kind of damage a player/npc takes depends on where you hit them and how hard verses their armor and abilities.

Getting one shotted is no fun. Thinking that you know anything about MMOs because you play WoW. Is like thinking you're a master chef because you work at McDonalds.

No, they don't need it but it gets much more funnier that way, instead of shooting your enemy with a mini-gun then watching him fall down like you threw some sleeping gas at him.

And the view of mature varies, your ideas of being an advlt may be very different from another persons perspective.
Example:
There are lots of advlt(and young ofc) people who can't play a game if it doesn't have really good graphics (i know that because I know people like that)

Getting one shotted is no fun.

As I said. Image

Well, I say no to "one shot in the head = death" in MMO. I mean, no "headkill", not "can't do 80 HP damage to your head". Or "heartkills", whatever. I think you know what I mean.
As for effects, I think they'd be good as a killing blow effect, i.e. ghoul burns completely when you kill him with you flamer. Something like that. "Shit. Shit never changes."
Shit happens :)

We still don't know how this game is going to work. I'm hoping for something original that doesn't completely svck, like a lot of things can. The whole one-shot thing... It could very easily ruin the MMO. Besides, as far as we know, this will just be like WoW or CoH. If it ends up have a system almost the same as Fallout 3, then I could see heashots being an instakill. However, even in real life, a headshot isn't a guaranteed kill. There are parts of the head that can be hit without the shot killing you. That and the fact that there is plenty of armour that can either reduce the lethality or completely stop some types of rounds.

The reason you don't usually deal with it is because there are far too many factors involved. If I shoot you in the mouth, will you instantly die? Highly unlikey. Will you lose a lot of blood? That is inevitably so because a mouth-shot will likely damage the tongue, which I believe has veins or and artery going through it. A shot to the arm or leg can be just as lethal as a shot to the heart. It all depends on whether the bullet hits a major artery or not. Like I said, there are way too many factors to deal with.

Baloney. The gore just adds some colors to the game setting, it makes the severe setting looks more natural. Will it improve the enjoyment? No doubt.
Besides, blood and guts are more appropriate to the post-nuclear setting then something like anime-styled sparks and flashes. If there will be a choice - I'll choose the blood.
The only reason is the age restrictions. Excuse my bad English... I am a Russian bear, it's hard to type with claws.

Crank the gore meter WAY up.

If they have the time to do it, giver.

I'd love to see crippled limbs, but again, if they have time.

A shot to the head, be it a bullet or a power-sledge, should do a good bit of damage, but not one-shot a player of equal level. Maybe have some disorientation for a few seconds, but not POW.... dead.

I agree with some posters with a shot finally removing the last bit of a victim's health would give a graphical death animation or a Critical hit offer a debuff of some kind. But a 1 shot to the head insta-kills is unfair in an MMO where you have skills and stats and equipment to better your character. I mean I'm a twitch player, I just need plain clothes and a sniper rifle at 1st level and camp for headshots... the end. Believe me I was one of them hated Snipers in many FPSers. And if it come to that I will do it..... again. :)

perma death
can we please have an mmo with permanent death in it.
with the chance that the killer of the deceased gets to rob the corpses items?
perhaps with the chance that those lovely uber items that saddos have been going without sleep to accumulate may be account bound for them - just to keep the wimps out there happy
fallout is a brutal world
make it look pretty by all means
but keep it brutal
this is a new venture - make something new of it, balance death and gameplay and narrative...PLEASE, can it be that hard?
make friendship and co-operation count more perhaps? War, War never changes!
Why?
Because,
'War is the continuation of politics and policy with the admixture of other means..'

I know one. The storyline is crap, but the graphics is outstanding, and with perma death, of course. Called "Real Life". You should try it. Excuse my bad English... I am a Russian bear, it's hard to type with claws.

Knite: No, they descend from the same species of monkey and that's why there so pissed. It's a human thing...

Permanent death would ruin the game lol. I get where you guys are coming from, I've always wanted to play a mmo with permanent death but lets be serious. The average person is a casual gamer, they only play 1-2 hours a day usually. They'd get killed and lose everything, then they'd just give up on the game. Also for new players that would be terrible. Higher level players would just kill beginner's, It'd be a complete mess.

Eve does permadeath and Pvp real well and manages to allow players to generate Lore content.
Other games - well death has no real meaning. At least in Fallout and Fallout 2 you had to backtrack to a save and even then the game was so fluid the same things would never happen twice. The reluctance to even approach the subject of PD just means we are gonna be stuck with the same old same old games. its got to be time for a change War, War never changes!

A good penalty for death would be a clone is produced but it's a little off. Every time a new clone is produced it's just a little more wrong than the last. Like a Xerox of a Xerox. Just like the Family Guy episode where Stewie and Brian get clones but they are a little less intelligent and a little bit handicapped physically ... then they melt into bloody goo. MMO's... MMO's never change...

Thats because Stewie deliberately made them so :D

Still there should be some kind of penalty when you are "defeated". Image
