Go Allout for Fallout Online!!

Post » Fri Jun 19, 2009 11:53 am

Am I in a time machine? Is this 1995?? I feel like I should be using an America Online free trial diskette to view this page!! If anything looks like it's in beta (*cough* Fallout Online(!?!!)), it's this website.

Anyways, I feel like (or at least expected) to see this place lit up with topics regarding what could be the revival of a company that became a giant for so many current successors (Blizzard, for one..) to perch atop the shoulders of..

So, again, unless I'm missing some sort of boat and my short time sleuthing on this seemingly inactive board really HAS misled me, I feel it's almost necessary to provide some sort of "Fallout Online Suggestions/Tips/Ideas" so that fans can speak out and provide/help shape the development of what could be, *gasp* a bigger MMO than WoW.

I can't think of anything now.. but you know, post below.

The board has actually been more active now than it was before Fallout Online's unveiling.

You can find the forum here,

I doubt it will become bigger than WoW. Fallout Online will probably be too hardcoe for 12 million people.

Really, it COULD be bigger than WoW, it just has to be that appealing to that many people, unlikely but possible.

Oh, and the site will probably eventually get a makeover, it's bland now but the game is still a way off.

Not sure of that but it seems really likely.

And procedurally generated building interiors, I might add.

Oh yes, please don't consider the server load for that ;)

Not sure why there is so much hate for the gamesas website design, it looks nice, simple, and clean especially in comparison to the OLD design before the site went offline in 2004 I think?

:?:
you mean your gfx unless you mean something other than building interiors, like events, item enemies, weather effects etc...

in both cases i say its the way to go dynamically environments are much more fun play with.

No, certainly not your GPU, the server load.

You'd only really be rendering the area around you anyway, after all.

The server would have to put up with the strain of an entire virtual Earth, and I don't think any server in creation could handle that, much less with people in every part of it doing things and still manage to turn a profit.

I like the look honestly, I simply use forums to post/read information and thoughts and could care less about how cool they look. The basic look allows it to load uberquick which is nice.

Also yes Fallout might not supplant WoW but it can become close to as big, if it doesnt try to go "hardcoe" and not have mass apeal.

Personally I am happy they are addressing their attention on the game rather than using up time and resources on the forums/website.

Just my opinion but I like the simple clean look and feel. It is a nice change over the crazy sites some places now have.

if it doesn't become bigger than WoW, i won't give a care. i'll be proud to say i'm one in the few. Btw, i could never find out, i don't know if they announced it, will online be an fpsrpg like 3? or a tds(top-down shooter) rpg like 1 & 2? Also, read the history of Fallout on ign.com. some of you may not need to, but others who jumped the 3 bandwagon (like me, i'm sorry to say, i wasn't very old enough when the originals came out, i'm looking into getting them)

P.S. yes i know that 1 & 2 weren't exactly top-down, nor were they limited to shooter, but i couldn't find a proper term so i went with the closest thing.

P.P.S. I hate WoW I put the 'Skill' in 'Kill.'
Wait, what?

I don't want it to be bigger than WoW :) That would mean it is appealing to the lowest common denominator, which also means it is appealing to people who don't care about computer games in any in-depth, or considered fashion.

I'd like it to be big enough to pay gamesas well, allow them to keep Fallout Online running smooth and introduce new content to the game. I'd like it to retain its artistic independence rather than selling out. This doesn't mean it has to be elitest and require total 24 hour dedication to play to a high level, just that you need to engage your brain a little and expect to be challenged when you sit down and click that Pipboy icon. It would also be cool if Fallout Online was successful enough to help fund any new ideas gamesas has for new games.

Do get them, you will not regret it! :) I just finished another full run through of Fallout 2, with the Restoration pack addon that fixes a lot of bugs and throws in some official content that never made it into the final, original release of the game (fixing these bugs is certainly important for enjoyment, Fallout 2 had quite a few unfortunately - it was rushed into release?).

As a game it proves that good gameplay and good writing is better than fancy graphics any day. Almost all modern games focus on the latter and provide no depth, which is a great shame, combining both would be incredible.

Hey it's me, ya I'm late again :) but what can you do? As much as I would like for this to be bigger than Wow, I can't see it happening. It's going to be huge with all the hardcoe Fallout fans backing it up but I don't think it will appeal to people who never even played or heard of Fallout. I'm a Xbox 360 user and when I'm chatting with people online the majority of them know what Fallout is but they have never really tried it. I'm not just talking about Fallout 3 but the other Fallouts. I think Fallout is one of the most amazing games for the people who give it a try and understand it, but just not for the people who didn't give it more than an hour. You guys know who I'm talking about right? Those 100% CoD players and others. Will it become as big or bigger? Only time will tell. "America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and loose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

I dont care if it will be bigger. I care if it will be good.
I liked vanilla WoW but each expanison proved to kill WoW makeing everything easier and easier.
I'm expecting V13 to be true to fallout universe thats all (and please work every detail :P I hate seeing walk/run animation in F3 when not going strait, it's so unnatural :P shame on bethesda)
