Do you think you will HAVE to be from Vault 13 or could you pick a different vault or not be from a vault at all?????

My guess is that you won't even come from a vault, or you will come from something like vault city. But my guess would be that there are several different starting conditions. Image

I seriously doubt it will be the case.

Perhaps it could be like Mass Effect or KotOR 2 where you pick where your character came from, what they did, etc and that could play into the storyline further later down the line?

Indeed, different starting conditions is very intersting. Maybe somekind of races, like in any other MMOs.
Be a ghoul or citizen; be a vault dweller or a wild nomad, for example. More variety in game - more fun. More ways to play your own role. - Yeah, yeah. Sorry for my english... :D

I'd really like the option to be a ghoul or another mutant race, could prove quite interesting and depending on the way they build the game, they could implement possibilities to use your 'races' abilities to benefit a group or to your own advantage, like if we had a 'raid' situation with a certain boss, maybe they'd emit too much radiation for a human to take, even with the proper supplies, and you'd need ghouls up front, or some such.

I think a wide variety of playable "races" (which really just amount to varying levels of mutation!) is an excellent idea. I realise that creating multiple starting areas / stories is probably not as efficient a use of development time as stuff that every character will experience, but I do think that they add a lot of depth to a game, and encourage replayability. I'd be much more inclined to make a new character if I could also experience a few hours of fresh content while doing so, than if I was faced with repeating the same opening grind I'd done and perfected half a dozen times already. Maybe you'll sit and sigh, wishing that I were near
Then maybe you'll ask me to come back again
And maybe I'll say "Maybe"

i thought the first experience would be single player, like age of conan, so we will get firmiliar with the game and that it would happen in vault 13. then when you're done there it would transition into the mmo world In gaming terms... Life's a die, then you bich.

I hope it's not like that, I always hate those. A game should be set up well enough so that it is also simple enough to figure out on your own with a few tips to help you along the way. I always hate how games set up a starter area that you need to play through every time you start a new character. There should be an offline tutorial you have the option of doing if you really need the help to learn how to play. Not like any starting mobs are every really dangerous anyway.

the thing that is good about it is that mobs wont be spawncamped but i do agree with you. everything really depends on how many servers and starting locations there are but as far as i know earhtrise has only one so there's a big "chance" FO will too In gaming terms... Life's a die, then you bich.

My biggest concern is having just one starting location.

I'm a person who creates several alts to explore all the progression paths in a game (call them Races / Classes if you will). A single starting location (a' la' AoC) will be a big turn-off for me personally.

I completely agree with that. I hope you can pick which vault and you get edges and hindrances which pertain to where your character is from like the Necropolis vault or Oasis or something.

There is also the problem of pre fallout 2, if the game is after fallout 1 then v13 is empty, I don't know any vaults that are occupied with "pure bloods", well gamesas could just add some new vaults but almost all had some defect of some sort and if there are any pure blood occupied vaults then they are probably sealed, or opened like vault city, but I hardly call vault city's citizens pure bloods (pure blood = those who have lived in a vault without any radiation contamination).

There is no need to start in a vault, f2 proved this, FoT proved this. There can be a perfectly good story without having to start in a vault or even ever entering one. Image

I would suspect similar to many of the games out there today, with the exception of say a Fallen Earth, you will come from a variety of cities, vaults, tribes, factories, etc...

If I had the chance to play say a robobrain, I probably would... Not sure if this avenue is going to be explored but I think it should.

I'm hoping for a lot of real world locations, which would also only be logical given the history of the franchise. I was extremely fond of Fallout 2, but I have to say I also enjoyed the newness of Fallout 3 being on the east coast. Tactics was also great for it's Chicago and back west themes... stopped in a town in Missouri, thought that was great.

nothing to discuss. gamesas will not answer, the game is in developt process.
Just for talk: about all comes from same place - is that realy make some problem? For me - dis is good, becouse it drammatical way, we will see friends who will hunt on each other soon, more deeper game exp. over it, so I like that idea. Image
