Minigames !?

Post » Sat Jun 27, 2009 11:10 am

I really wana see bets on fighting(like melee cage fight or some kind of range confrontation in a pit or arena) , gambling and casinos.I want every player to be able with some luck and good timing to make some good money with mini games.Yeah ,i want when im boring to go play a black jack or roulette or maybe to put some money on a friend that wana fight in the pit.We need those things like the salt and pepper if the game...Or to be able to call for a fight and place some bets on my head ,if i win i take double ,if i lose i lose and that's it.We need this kind of entertaining... Gambling in MMOs is an interesting question...

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/21/law-of-the-game-on-joystiq-mmorpgambler/

Something for us to have the lawyers research at the appropriate time.

I see nothing wrong with gambling with a game currency o.O But there are always people who see problems in everything. But yes, I can't imagine V13 without it... although imo it depends on the game's setting.

The Act defines a "game of chance" as any game which involves elements of both chance and skill, or where superlative skill can eliminate chance. The definition of "prize" includes cash prizes, products and virtual prizes which can be exchanged for money.

This law seems incredibly stupid, but i think gambling can still take place in a Fallout MMO. It all depends on the prize won through gambling. The simplest way to circumvent this absurd law is to just tag any winnings with "NODROP" flag; thus the prize is not cash nor can it be exchanged for money exempting it from the scope of the law.

I lived in Japan for a while, and they had a similar law outlawing "Cash Prizes" from the popular "Pachinko" gambling parlors. Pachinko is kinda like a vertical version of Pinball with no bumpers to keep the metal bearings from falling into the losing hole; instead you only control the initial release of the balls and hope they land in a bonus hole that causes more pinballs to be released. There's alot of flashing lights, and crazy noises that makes it a very visually appealling game (if you have a little to drink, you can just space out and watch the pretty lights). The balls can then be exchanged for the same kind of prizes that you could find at a pharmacy; cigarettes, tissue paper, minor electronics (like an alarm clock). Now as a separate matter, the Yakuza (Japanese mafia) has an illegal side-business of converting those worthless prizes back into cash ( I think they just sell the prizes back to the parlors below cost, but I don't really know ).

V13 could use a similar token setup offering prizes with no monetary value. There could even be an in-game mafia that could exchange them into a game currency.

Personally, i want to see Prize Fighting in V13. I think dueling in MMO's is typically pretty lame, and usually its pretty unbalanced~ I can already see the guy in Power Armor going around and dueling all the noobies. A duel should be balanced (if desired; an option of stripping people of their equipment during the duration) and there should be the option of wagering built into the game. Since I'm on the subject of fighting for prizes, there is also the topic of conflict resolution I would like to address as it pertains to "Ninja Looters". I hate whining to GM's that someone ninja looted something they shouldn't have, I want the option to force them to give it up or attempt to fight them for the item (the option to steal by force).

I also wouldn't mind seeing playable Arcade machines in the game, maybe a little something like Earth Worm Jim or Descent.

how about not just those types, but maybe even like the lockpick and computer hack mini games from fallout 3?(assuming they're allowed to use that if not then o well we can move on from that)even though they could be frustrating at times they were fun too

The problem with gambling or any kind of minigames , giving any kind of profit, in a MMO might be the balance issues as well.

It's of course too early to tell how it would work and what kind of system there is gonna be, but assuming some similar SPECIAL system, where Luck determines who is going to win the gambling, it might cause some troubles.

(Assuming an account will be able to have more than 1 character per server) For example a slot machine idea.. You might create a gambler character and make huge money with it and transfer it to your "real" character.
Because MMO's are not "pure games" where people play just to have fun, it's some kind of second life, where people want to be successful, no matter how.

But of course, a system where all of these minigames are totally interactive, meaning you can only play them with other real players, would solve this problem.
Just wanted to share my thoughts about it ;-)

Oh, and also hello there gamesas family! ;-)

how about a safari ? that avoids the legallity of the gambling .
or whack a mole rat involving sledgehammers and other blunt instruments for a bit of melee madness .
maybe grenade cooking or grenade baseball , knive catching even . clay pigeon shooting using frag mines instead of clay discs .
pin the switch blade on the death claw ,brahmin rodeo .
mine field triple jump ,hop skip and where the f##k did he go , pass the parcel with a time bomb .
super mutant boxing or ghoul racing .
i dont see what the problem is with gambling in a computer game , its not like gamesas are gonna send you a cheque for a thousand caps afterwards is it , but theres always loads of alternative means to whittle away some play time . EAGLES MAY FLY HIGH, BUT WEASLES DONT GET svckED INTO JET ENGINES
