Good Old Games is Gone!

Site changed today,

http://gog.com/

Dear GOG users,

We have recently had to give serious thought to whether we could really keep GOG.com the way it is. We've debated on it for quite some time and, unfortunately, we've decided that GOG.com simply cannot remain in its current form.

We're very grateful for all support we've received from all of you in the past two years. Working on GOG.com was a great adventure for all of us and an unforgettable journey to the past, through the long and wonderful history of PC gaming.

This doesn't mean the idea behind GOG.com is gone forever. We're closing down the service and putting this era behind us as new challenges await.

On a technical note, this week we'll put in place a solution to allow everyone to re-download their games. Stay tuned to this page and follow us on Twitter and Facebook for updates.

All the best,
GOG.com Team

Asides from Steam (which has a limited library in comparison), does gamesas have any alternatives to purchase their old titles from? Still had a list of games I was planning on purchasing but never got around to (due to lack of funds at the time). Shame they've closed up shop, they gave out an awesome package of goods.

Rumor has it they might be ditching the DRM free model with the "new site". There should be an official statement tomorrow from Good Old Games according to their Twitter.

If the DRM thing is true it would be a shame, even Impulse has adopted a certain degree of DRM. If the two most popular non DRM supporters go that route it might not reflect to well on a DRM free future IMO.

So, according to a GameSpot article, they'll be coming back with a new game.
That new game is Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga.
So who is bringing this game to GOG? Is it gamesas(publisher), Bioware(developer), or Atari? (the current rights holder to D&D)

They didn't say who :?

It would be Atari since they own the current rights to the license and hence everything created in that property. I think they repackaged it in Europe already (similar to the Fallout Collection) but I don't know what became of that. I know it included Planetscape Torment for sure though.

And Good Old Games is coming back it seems, the shut down was a weird form of marketing. Looks like people are pretty angry about it.

^ You are correct. The game is hosted on Atari's game profile.

The site looks much better and has a lot neat looking games. Too bad I only buy physical games. ImageCurrently playing - MDK2 (WiiWare)

And they're back.

Pretty slow right now, I wonder what changes were made?

Just w

Just watch their four youtube vids to get a low down on changes.

They claim 98% of the code on the webpage was changed. They added new features like creating playlists, signed new publishers... And of course, Baldur's gate was added! To bad I already own two different hardcopies of that title (The first released box with the expansion and then the orginal saga box.)

Long live retro gaming.
