Which Fallout from Interplay was your favorite? Hmm..

Post » Mon Jun 29, 2009 8:58 pm

This question got me thinking.. By the way feel free to post your favorite Fallout and why. But I was thinking for the people who checked the box to be part of the beta testing and then chose their favorite Fallout, will gamesas possibly use those answers to pick their beta testers? I mean maybe one of those Fallouts resembles Fallout Online the most and they want to pick those people to beta test it? I don't know, maybe I'm making something out of nothing.. But my favorite Fallout was #1 and was what I chose. So do any of you think they might be using that simple question to pick the people for the beta testing? We'll have to wait and see. ;) "America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and loose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

I played them all in order from approximately the year they were released and my favorite is Fallout 2. It builds upon the best of Fallout 1 by adding more items, quests, and companions, as well as a companion behavior and equipment screen. However, I did enjoy the plot of Fallout 1 better. That being said, I think the developers realized what they could squeeze into the game in terms of advlt material and did just that in Fallout 2. That's why it's my top Fallout game.

I have to agree with that. Best plot was original fallout with out question, but fallout 2 jest had way more thing you could do including greater control of your NPC party members. And the build up of even more control over more control over the party is what I esspecially liked in Fallout: Tatics has well has it being the first game where you had a bit more customisation with your character. However have any of you played the demo for what fallout 3 was supossed to be before they had to give it up to Bethesda. I have and the even though I liked fallout 3 I prefered this demo has it showed what they were trying to do and it would have been prehaps the most epic fallout game ever. I have high hopes for Fallout online and I hope that I can get a chance to be in the beta group, but if not I will get it when it comes out any way after all who needs WoW compared to this. Orc with battle axe Vs person in power armor and M7s Gauss Rifle..... you do the math :D.

First off, lol!

Second, I enjoyed fallout - but I was sad that gamesas gave it to Bethesda for whatever reason :(

Fallout 2's diversity, ability to armor and equip your npc accomplices and general additional items/monster/perks etc made Fallout 2's gameplay the best.

Fallout 1 had the greatest storyline ever internally. Fallout in general still has the best lore/storyline out of any game I've played.
It was a genuinely unique idea and I can't praise it enough.

I enjoyed the newer features of fallout 3 and I am sure that drew a great deal of the more modern gamers in based on the graphics and first-person FPS playstyle.
I loved when I first picked up fallout 1 and immediately became enthralled by the captivating story. I still go back and play 1 and 2 regularly.

All in all, I think Fallout 2 was my favorite; however, I still think level caps are poop.

I hope, as I am sure all of you do, that I am chosen to alpha/beta test Fallout Online!

This is an unfair question. I see them all as my favorites for different reasons. I loved Fallout 1 for introducing me into the series. I love Fallout 2 for giving me more the awesome. I loved Tactics for the serious skill it took and Boonville. I loved 3 for giving me a new perspective on the wasteland and THREE DOG! Image

I absolutelly love every Fallout between #1-Tactics, but I must say that my favourite was 2. The advlt materia′l, Bringing back Harold and DogMeat, It felt like the perfect sequal and improved everything after the first one. Other game-series' should follow the example. Image

I feel the same as a few others that Fallout 1 had the awesome storyline but all the additions to number 2 made it an all time great sequel.

For me it has to be between 1 and 2 though really... and as a 26 year old life long gamer it means alot to say that Fallout (1&2) are my favorite games of all time, and just knowing that Josh Sawyer (from the original Black Isle studios) is working on Fallout New Vegas gives me great hope for the future of Fallout and hopefully the future of Fallout Online too!

I know gamesas had financial issues which lead to them dropping the original Fallout 3 (Van Buren) but really? of all the gamesas games at the time!! Dropping Fallout? Sheesh I hope whomever made THAT executive decision has since been unceremoniously shown the door. Fallout 3 would have put gamesas back on the map!

Pure speculation, in hindsight it seems to be a poor decision but at the time it may have seemed like a good decision. It was a weird time for PC gaming on the business side of things, console sales were on the rise, piracy was becoming popular, and few if any digital avenues existed.

Dark Alliance 2 is a pretty good example of a great game with a bigger branding than Fallout yet didn't sell as well as it should have. Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel sold really poorly as well and it was critically a somewhat mediocre game but had the Fallout name and was on multiple platforms.

Not sure how well Fallout Tactics sold though but since the sequel was canceled I'd assume it may not have met internal predictions. Now that, was a good game! It wouldn't be much of a stretch to say Fallout is only as popular as it is now due to the release of Fallout 3 and perhaps the visual style associated with it.

gamesas had to sell Fallout in order to raise badly needed capital. It was nice to see a different version of the series that Bethesda Softworks brought out. It amazes me, however, the lawsuits that are eminating from their legal departments.

gamesas sold Fallout 3 and 4 etc to Bethesda. They didn't sell Fallout Tactics, Fallout 1 or Fallout 2. So what happened when gamesas started selling those titles again? Bethesda sues and subsequently loses.

gamesas also retained the licence to Fallout MMORPG. Now that it is starting to take shape, Bethesda sues again. Are you guys serious?

I think that gamesas should do the GTA 3 thing. Imagine:

Fallout 2: California Republic
Fallout 2: Beijing
Fallout 2: Moscow
etc.

Grow up, Bethesda. It isn't like gamesas is doing anything wrong. This smells alot like Mattel Inc vs MGA Entertainment or DC Comics VS Fawcett Comics. Kick the crap (and the money) out of the other company until the little guy goes bankrupt. Then buy the other company.

The entire Fallout license was sold to Bethesda. gamesas only has claim to the MMO aspect of the franchise provided they meet certain conditions. They also have distribution rights to the firs three Fallout PC titles in their present form. This means they can't change the graphics, music, etc without permission from Bethesda.

Bethesda had actually sued all at once and gamesas counter sued. The way the Fallout titles were being sold and issues with the development of the Fallout MMO were cited as reasons by Bethesda. It's still an on going legal matter of course and probably won't be resolved until at least 2011.

Generally though it's frowned upon to talk about other companies on this forum so the topic should probably be avoided.

I have to say this was a hard choice for sure, fallout 1 had an epic storyline and for it being my first game i played of the sort I was completely blown away, when fallout 2 came out I had to have it I absolutely loved the gameplay and story to this day. But they real one that I found most challenging and most enjoyable was fallout tactics which i still say is one of my favorite games to date.

I would have to say I love Fallout 2, Fallout 3 was great and all, and I like some of the updated stuff for a newer age to play the Fallout series, but I still love Fallout 2 much more!

I am also kind of kicking myself as having only just signed up, it was actually from reading on other forums about gamesas having the rights to a Fallout MMO and I felt like a heel for not having come onto gamesas's forums sooner.

At any rate my reasoning behind liking Fallout 2 the best, is just the difficulty, ya its really tough but you feel all the more satisfied when you blow up the Poseidon Oil Rig, after convincing the Enclave to help you kill Frank, and using the turrets to backstab him :D

I also replayed the game with the Fallout 2 Restoration Project (Expansion?) and I liked all the added options you were given, especially protecting Vault 13, because I think intelligent deathclaws would just be awesome to meet, especially in an MMO, even if its just Xarn.

Or make them a playable character in the MMO, I dunno I have always thought it would be awesome to sneak around in a giant cloak as a deathclaw to try and keep your identity hidden from the populace. Maybe I am just a creeper >.>

Fallout 1 had my favorite plot (and villain!), but Fallout 2 had my favorite gameplay mechanics. And Frank Horrigan

As an aside, here's a story for you: I remember back in the mists of... 2001, maybe 2002? That era, anyway. Back when people still used a program called mIRC, which I doubt people born from the 90's on up will even recall.

Anyway. Back then, I had the fortune to have a chat with Tim Cain (Nice guy, by the way!), and he told me of his vision for the Enclave for Fallout 2. Which I recall was basically; Screw Earth, we're leaving!
I'm certain others will remember this as well.

Also, back when Fallout 2 came out, it wasn't that many years since Under a Killing Moon, and the whole plot of wiping the mutants off the planet had just been done. Don't get me wrong though, I still love Fallout 2 as well, but blowing up the bad guys' base before they can wipe out the world wasn't as original as the plot of FO1 was at the time. At least, not for me.
