Guild / clan / faction structure.

look i know this is in everyones mind a minor change but its something that in my guild has had a major effect on the running of the guild and effects heaps of guilds around the world.

RANK, most MMO's have like a guild RANK structure. the problem with this is you have poeple who feel that they are less of a person or they are not cool enough unless they are an officer. this results in guilds that have a bunch of people who feel they can run something but don't do anything.

not your probably thinking. oh well thats down to the running of the guild... and to some point your correct. but it also stamps a culture into the game community of "this is how it is" and it has taken me months to try to stamp it out and i still have the problems of changing the minds of new members.

what i propose is having rather RANKS in the game just leave it open. one way to do this is to have the leader(you have to have this its unavoidable) then refer to the rest of the positions as "roles" make the roles and access fuctions customisable. so i can type in the name of the role then add the required bank access ect as i wish.

now your probably thinking, "um... why? what the hell will that change?" well i can tell you, it changes a great deal. i GM for a guild called carnival (http://www.carnival@guildomatic.com check it out if you find this interesting) and i have been enforcing the culture of "roles rather than ranks" for months with great success and alot of happy players.

we structure like this.
-guild leader
-logistics ( idealy i would love to lable each role but players with this access are bank managers Raid organisers, head of recruitment, web management, loot overseaer ect) now your probably thinking , well these guys are just officers. the difference is due to having a spacific role it they do there job and no one fights about i should be logistics cos i do blar blar blar. people just have the role for the job they do. no fights, no problems , everyone is happy, what needs to be managed gets managed.
from there its simple
-regular raider
- casual raider
- social/pvp/alt
- initiate

this slight change to structure wont change game play much, but having roles over rank has a great impact on culture in a social environment and my guild is proof of that. and also i guess if people wanted to revert back to rank well they can lable there roles as such.

i hope i made my intentions clear. thanks.

i personally believe that the "guild" leader should be able to choose the set up in game, whether he wants two positions or a hundred, it should be up to that person, you don't like it, leave. I hope that there would be another guild in the game... Just my two caps :ugeek: Give me an axe and point me towards the caribou, dinners on me.

You said "Now you're probably thinking" like 4 times.

Also, I have no idea what you are trying to say.
