What Type Of MMO Will Project V13 Be?

Post » Fri Jul 17, 2009 8:48 pm

There is a huge border between an MMORPG and an MMO-FPS-RPG. First off, let me just let everyone know that I can't stand WoW for the life of me, it involves no skill and your character's importance, is none. On the other hand, I love Eve. Eve has taken the MMO idea but made the game to where it's not just leveling up and going on the quests that don't do anything, it's not about giving you a poorly made storyline that three people made in six minutes, Eve is about allowing the players to take the basic storyline of the game but go their own way with it. My biggest hope is that Project V13 looks to Eve as their guide for how to make it a good MMO that people who are loving the game now will love even more.

Guilds
Guilds are something that goes hand-in-hand with a MMO, but Eve makes the guilds matter. Eve allows the players to make giant corporations, essentially your own army if you try hard enough, and that is something that Project V13 should definitely make sure to take from them. We would love to generate our own group to revolutionize the town we're in, or to destroy the town, that should all be an option to the players. Start a trade group or a mercenary squad, start some real estate or conquer the estate, the ways players can make it go would be endless and peoples Role-Playing would be there like no tomorrow. DO NOT follow WoW, I don't care how famous it is but when you have two opposing forces that can't take each other's land or fight against the other for any cause, that eliminates the RP from the game.

The Map
Eve is massive, and allows everyone to be online but in different places. Project V13 needs to have more then just one territory, by that I mean more then what New Vegas has currently. Project V13 shouldn't just have one large area, but multiple locations that don't even need to be connected but can still intertwine with each other. This allows trade to go not just from town to town but state to state and possibly even internationally, development of one area could harm or benefit another or do nothing. One military could decide to march through all the areas, alliances could be formed, and the story and freedom will be all the more recognized.

As I said, Eve is the MMO to follow for the Fallout Universe. Fallout has been based of a story of chaos and reconstruction that we all want to be a part of, but we don't want to be doing the same stupid quests over and over again, we want to make our own quests, we want to develop our own world in the Fallout Universe.

Its been stated already that this mmo will have a section about rebuilding. More then likely there will be guilds. There will be quests. Please stop thinking this will be like F3 or F: NV. Because it wont. It's going to be its own game and will be revealed in time.

Do I think the content will be player driven? Yes. A large part will probably be player driven, but there will be quests etc to do, and It will most likely not be a MMO FPS in the style where you're "Skill" is more important then anything. Twitch in mmofps's has not worked in the past and with current hardware it most likely will not work right now.

To your second point. Seperating zones on the server so that the cpu can be split up to the high pop ones and lesser zones don't use so many resources is very feasible. And is probably the choice of programmers right now because you can do so much more on much less hardware.

In the end I believe P V13 will have aspects from many mmo's. Sadly no real details have been released so we don't know exact details.

Edit: One more point I want to make is that it cant really be a straight up pvp game because its already been stated that pvp will be flagged. Can't just randomly kill people (Unless they have an actual pvp server -crosses fingers-).

Well I appreciate the information that you have given me of what will happen. I don't expect it to be New Vegas with a bunch of other people in it, but letting me know that you don't think it will be a FPS definitely let's me know how interested I will be in the game. I can't wait for them to release more information on the actual game, the hard part is we all have our different view points on what we think it will be and what we want it to be, guess we all just have to wait for them to show us what we're going to be playing. Till then I suppose my doubts are showing true, from a vast amount of the posts that I've seen and the replies that I've received so far. I just hope they don't ruin the idea of Fallout Online, it's a great one and could be an amazing game, but if they do follow the Fallouts that they have already made (trust me, I know it will have better graphics and gameplay), I see a large amount of disappointment.

I wouldn't be surprised it if is "partially" fps. by that I mean that you aim at a person for example, and you fire, but the actual aim of the shot is determined by your "gun" skill for example, not your actual aim. You aim "near" the head of the opponent, the chance to hit is harder but its more damage... yet again the "gun" skill does the "dice roll" to see if you hit. That's a good way to handle the fps aspect. and there are many other good ideas on the forums too, just gotta read em all hehe

I truly hope they take a page from Star Wars galaxies when it comes to real estate. Being able to have a highly customizable house or guild hall. You could create your own cities. Have your own Megaton? Rivet City? Hoover Dam? Bunkers. They made the moving of objects simple and precise. depending on which way you were facing in relation to the object and Using the arrow keys you could move the object in any direction in the 3d space. You didnt pick it up and it wobbles all over the place like in FO. It floats and moves a few inches per key stroke, brilliant! And they had tons and tons of loot. Maybe your guild could dig a vault. Set up vending AI characters to sell the loot you get, a vibrant scavenging and crafting direction. if you played SWG, one of the things you probably liked was the player housing part of the game, a way to store and display your loot, hopefully tons and tons of cool looking loot, Id like to show off my trophies. I spent many many hours hunting down and finding cool rare paintings and skulls and mounted heads and weapons. it also made for a great place to store all the crafting supplies i collected that i sold on the vendors in my house.

Anyways, I have great expectations for this game, I wont be mad if I dont get everything i want. As you can tell, I like to collect in the wastes and i like seeking out rare items, collecting materials and reselling them. The only unfortunate thing is having no real way or displaying it in my house in any of the Fallout games :(

p.s. I dont mean "instance" housing, where everyone in the game goes in the same door and it instances them into their house. I mean real houses that other people can come in, real cities and guild halls. grr.

Heres a link to some cool SWG home decorations http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?topic_id=446718

And my personnal favorite guild hall http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/players/news_archive.vm?id=67788&month=062008

These arent themes, each item was looted and placed there by someone.

I'd be nice if combat was fast & furious like Borderlands ... and PVP gameplay featured conquerable clan zones like a much improved version of erm... *cough* Planetside *cough*. Image
Wastelander since C=64!

Awaiting Alpha/Beta testing!

Fallout will be Fallout. Obvious statement is obvious, but the game should not try to be any one or combination of other games. In a world of 6 billion people and probably just as many games studios, most good ideas will be eventually thought up independently. There's a difference between letting the devs know what features are wanted and what examples are interesting, and building up a vision of some idealised perfect game that has everything you want and nothing you don't is and is priced like all these features are implemented by keyboard working monkeys born to make games just for you rather than expensive human labour.

Every game has its flaws, and Project V13 will be no exception.* Every single one (No means an exhaustive list, but don't nitpick) Doesn't mean they svck. Ultimately it's horses for courses, no game since probably Pac-Man has completely cornered the market. "Carebears" don't like games like EVE, "Gankers" don't like WoW. Let gamesas know where your preference lies but then leave it at that. If you're in the minority that they decide isn't marketable, the only way you'll get the game to bend to you is to pay exorbitant prices to support the overheads.

Also I don't know about you, but I found stacking rare items for display was easy enough in the gamembryo engine once you figured it out, but that's not gamesas so this paragraph doesn't actually exist. *cough* Grab still svcked though. *cough*

*Chris if you're reading this and produce a perfect game, I will eat my perfectly good copy and go buy another one. Why do games studios have to fight and die? War, war never changes : (

Jeebus, if we produce a perfect game with no flaws or bugs, I'll join you for lunch.

If you create a perfect game with no flaws or bugs you should be hailed as kings of the gaming industry, presidents should be your personal maids, the food you eat should be cooked by Bill Gates,Stephen Hawking will read goodnight stories to you each and every night and the Playboy manor would be your outhouse.

No seriously if you would create such a game all those things should be fulfilled :P Image
