I just did some basic googling, and found out that Huey Long, the last living member of The Ink Spots (Maybe, We Don't Have To Set The World On Fire), died last year, at 105.

:(

Would be nice to hear some more of their stuff in the game! Maybe you'll sit and sigh, wishing that I were near
Then maybe you'll ask me to come back again
And maybe I'll say "Maybe"

It would be nice to have them as radio channels, but I'd still like fallout 1,2 music themes when walking around more than anything else^^ Image

Well I am a fan of Fallout and what I am thinking about music is

Give me a game I want to play.
Music is not a high priority. Heck, its not even on my list of wants for a Fallout MMO.

Any kind of trailer or opening video definitely needs some good music to go with it. There also should be a decent selection of in-game music that could play from various devices (radios, etc.). Other than that the game does not need much real music per se. The ambient sounds of the environment should suffice most of the time. Image

While I think that radio stations playing a broad selection of old time rock, blues, crooning, doo-wop, etc would be fantastic, the unfortunate reality is that music is very expensive. One or two key / signature songs would be great, but I just don't think the money is there to do anything beyond that.

Alternatively, if V13 does go down the microtransaction route, well then radio stations with set playlists might be a cool idea (although again, you're still probably better off selling something that you don't have to license). Maybe you'll sit and sigh, wishing that I were near

There must be simply 1000s of songs from the 30's to 60's that would suit the mood.

I'd like to see several DJs around who competed for the airwaves and offered bounties on rare old music and radio play holotapes. Each would naturally have their own preferences for the kind they liked. As you did each mission, the repertoire of songs available on your radio stations expanded.

In this day and age with the technologies we have at hand why not have a larger scale set of options, lets start with some of the old FO 1 and FO 2 ya know the 2 best FO’s IMO and the ones that gamesas actually made and not beth.. beth… bethaetdhtws.. excuse me.. How about a live broad cast with volunteer D/J streaming music or the ability to connect to www…..music broadcast…… w/e. w/e AND the ability so play mp3 lists.. Would it be so hard to incorporate multiple choice.. –music--- live stream—in game play list---- mp3 list---- heck gamesas could start http://www.gamesasradio.com and let ppl advertise in between music hey omg it’s like a real over the air radio station :P or try to set up some kind of arrangement to stream XM or HD radio or something or ALL OF THE ABOVE :P
How about armature artist submitting their music wow now we have a new forum to listen to “home town” bands and maybe create a rock star or 2 :P . (insert whatever god you believe in here ) knows we could use less label made bands and more true artists who make/write music for the love of it instead of just a pay check and they look good in skimpy cloths with voiced over music. And maybe even make it worth wild to listen to commercials :P like 1 unit of in game money for every xx amount of time we listen to commercials :P xx amount of units of in game money for clocking on an add and visiting the site
OMG AND.. I know this it off topic but .. gamesas if you really wanna stop currency farming … SELL YOUR OWN IN GAME MONEYS with a variable piecing market so that you can undercut farmers ( kind of like gas prices) make a “market” to buy or sell in game money connect it to paypay or… in trade for in game, game play time… 10000 units of game currency =10 cents or 10 seconds of game account time and bank it until a person earns a month of game time .. then turn it around and sell 10000 units for 20 cents that’s a 200% profit ( obviously I have not made mathematical evaluations of this concept and all numbers are fictions ) then everyone is happy cause the people why have more money than brains… I mean time to play and wanna buy in game moneys know their getting it safely and it’s not causing huge conflicts because people who can make it and trade it back balances the market and making it easy for all types of gamers… … I’m a stay at home dad and I play over 15 hours a day make crazu in game moneys but because I don’t have a job I can’t play this epic game as much as I want… hey I’m a multy billion dollar corporate exec that likes to play 1 to 2 hours a day and I love the game but I can’t seem to make enough in game money to make it worth playing and everything in between.
Ok maybe not like gas more like stock market

Of course The ink spots belongs in to a Fallout-game. Maybe "If I didn't care" or "Whispering grass"?

Also one band I think would fit in a Fallout-game is the "Modern jazz quartet". Their long jazz-instrumentals and other songs would be perfect to listen when walking in post-apocalyptic america. Especially "Pyramid" and "Django" are songs I would like to hear in P13. What is the last year, you can use music from? -58?
Just thinking. "Django" was released in -53 and "Pyramid" in -59. Image

They could go the Realtime Worlds route and start a music program where anyone can submit their songs for approval to be in an ingame music player. The artist gains exposure and gamesas gets some free music for people to listen to.

Now that's a neat idea.

Wonder who will get the job at gamesas doing that.

(amusing little weekly scene at the gamesas offices.)

OK, Frank, its your turn to go into the little music room and pick out the decent Fallout music.

No, no, not me. (seen running away) No more of listening to people who couldn't even make American Idol or Who's got talent audtions. Arrggghhh.

OK, Chris your next.

Who me? Don't you mean the other Chris?

No no, that's when you put certain super-fans on the website to VOTING on the submissions to weed out the junk... then pick out some of the winners for inclusion in the game.

Music for a game with this weight. How can one answer this?! Wow, well. With the rise of MANY unsigned, independent bands (I myself have experience in managing bands), with still a good number of good ones, why not have a neo-futuristic band(s)?! Little to no cost for the developers, on top of shameless promotion for the bands(s) used. Good for both parties, done and done. The name's not important, what I do is. I'm a drifter, a drifter of the Wastes.

Having some "canned" music ingame would certainly be good, but in the long run I think it would be best to just allow people to build their own music library local on their system. Everybody could listen to what they wanted that way.

Having an in-game selection of stations that provide actual news from the happenings in the MMO would be very cool. Maybe not something as mundane as quest completion, but particularly significant events such as gang wars, server events, and the like. Image

IMO, music shouldn't be that high of a priority in any MMO. Why? Because unless they manage to incorperate 100s, if not 1000s of songs that a decent majority of players will listen to while playing, most people will only listen to the in game music for the first couple days, a month at most of listening before they run a music stream or a music player in the background with the songs they want to hear.

Although, streaming music with DJs who mention key events that happen would be pretty darn cool, but probably not financially feasable. Players could set up thier own streams and do this themselves though.

Also, Mark Morgan's music was great in FO1+2 and provided a great background music in the games.

I demand a large array of music radios as well as awesome music. The Recent Game (3) made me love it because the music was memorable, as well as the... Owner of the Station.
