Hello gamesas,

Name is Joe and I am a 28 year old from New York. I have grown up playing many of your games, I even used to draw Earthworm Jim pictures when i was 13. But when all is said and done, i am not a fanatic, or a fanboy. I am just a normal average person who loves gaming and here is my opinion on this whole Project 13 stuff.

Like alot of others, i eagerly waited for the release of Fallout 3 (Van Buren) in the 90's. I was extremely disappointed when it was cancelled. And even felt sorry for your dev team. For the sake of arguement, i stopped following Fallout news when the project was canceled, and i did not start taking interest again until some years later (2006) when a Fallout 3 was rumored to be released by Bethesda. I was excited, like others, because Bethesda is well known for their RPG games (Elder scrolls). So i again felt like i did when I was 16 playing Fallout 1, i could not WAIT for the release of Fallout 3 in 2008.

But during my waiting for the game, i decided to do some web searching. I instantly learned that gamesas/Black Isle completely sold their rights to Bethesda. Wow, so I assumed that gamesas had fallen on tough times. The creator of one of my favorite childhood games (Earthworm Jim) has gone bankrupt, whatever.

But heres where my problem starts. If financial trouble kept you from making Van Buren. Why on earth would you sell the rights to Bethesda (So they could theoretically create an easier game to craft) just to use those millions of dollars in funds trying to create a MMORPG? Now ok, maybe im not a video game designer. But im %100 certain the creation of an MMORPG compared to a Fallout 1,2 sequel is EXTREMELY different in cost, man hours, resource, and maintenance.

What it seems like to an honest Joe like myself. Is that whoever is making decisions for gamesas, is making them very poorly. Selling your IP may have been a great move for the fans of the franchise, but it was a horrible business decision if you are relying on banking with a MMORPG. I just do not understand the logic, and I do not even have a college education. Why would somebody that failed to finish a difficult project, attempt to create an IMPOSSIBLE project, after selling %99 of the patenting rights to their artwork?????? Really?

You gentlemen have created an epic franchise. A franchise that lives on in alot of us. A world you created that we will take to our graves. But lets face it men, Bethesda has brought the Fallout world on to the grand stage. The only thing missing from the modern Fallouts, is the turn based combat. Everything Bethesda has done with the games never watered down any of the content. Their kept true to their word, and created an immersive, fun, awe inspiring game that most of us sat and played LONGER then Fallout 1 and 2 combined! Heck, even Fallout: New Vegas enlisted the help of previous Black Isle members. And New Vegas is worth all the hype. They did NOT ruin your creation.

In conclusion, it just seems to me that you (gamesas) are trying to break the hearts of gamers once again. With a promise of something. Something SO BIG, that it would most likely take gamesas, Obsidian, and Bethesda COMBINED to finish this project. An MMORPG is no joke men. Really consider your options.

Just let Bethesda do their job. They own the game now. And they are doing a fine job, by all standards. Please do not bite your nose to spite your face. If your attempting to create an MMORPG just to ruin Bethesda's chances at making one, just stop. Your not hurting anyone except the people who fell in love with the world you guys created. You got 50+ million in US dollars for the sale. Their is no shame in letting the students become the master. And gamesas has indeed taught Bethesda how to make a great game.

A concerned fan of gamesas and Bethesda,

Joseph Priestly, Brooklyn NY

Every point of yours could be argued against, and they've been working on this MMO since long before they sold the rights to Bethesda.

Bethesda can't work on an mmorpg unless gamesas hasn't/doesn't reach their funds needed. Hasn't released it by the time necessary or whatever other clauses. By all impressions I think they have. Also, an mmorpg can pretty much pay itself off in the first month if it has a huge fan-count. Well I guess we're just a couple of problem solvers

I cant say i agree with your sixth paragraph, but i aint gonna argue here cause there is policy about it in the forum.

gamesass problems didnt start with van beuren, they started with other mistakes, just check out the other 'dubious' releases of the time.Thats all i care to say for the matter.I dont think they try to break anyones heart. If they did this whole section of the forum wouldnt exist now would it? -Duke:I am looking for some alien toilet to bag my bricks, whose first?

Hey Joseph,

Good to know that you still love gamesas! But I thought I would fix a couple of mistakes that you have made with your facts. For instance, gamesas did not receive 50+million for the IP. It was 5.75Million.
Also in regards to the actual sale they sold it on the condition that they could make a 'Fallout MMO', And Beth agree'd to the contract and signed. Now where the problem starts is Beth have claimed that gamesas has breached contract by not gaining 30million in funding or starting development of the within 2 years of the contract being finalized. Turns out they did, and have the backing from an unknown source or the court would have granted the injunction bethesda tried to file. So the contract stands.

What is in speculation is Bethesda's reasoning behind trying to get an injuntion, which by the way Bethesda are now being counter-sued by gamesas and that case looks strong. In the end, Bethesda Agreed to allow gamesas to make the MMO and are now regretting thier decision because of the Big bucks to be made. gamesas is going for make or break on this one so rest assured, If they like thier jobs they will do well.

As to your concerns with gamesas not being able to develop the game alone, you need not worry. They have contracted another game studio named Maskhead Studios to help with the development. They are also using the Maskhead Engine for the game, witch can be seen live and running on 'Earthrise' maskheads new game. Link to ingame footage here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cn2SJFyxWCU

It looks to be in good hands, but I do agree with you it is a shame that this legal battle has to continue, but you know what they say "War, War never changes"

Peace man,
Cheers

Thanks for the heads-up Blackbane, i admit i do not know much about the current legal battles, or the money figures. But again, as a fan; im concerned.

I am happy to see fellows fans of the series having so much faith in gamesas at this point in time. It gives me hope. Because I truly love gamesas's universe and i am more then willing to hype up all my friends and family about a Fallout MMO, much like i did when Fallout 3 came out in 2008.

Keep up the good work then fellas.
