NPC Dialougue/Interaction

Post » Wed Jul 29, 2009 2:09 pm

I think NPC dialougue and interaction is a the best part about Fallout, and I hope we will see that in again V13. I loved being able to just B-S- my way out of a quest, stealth my way to the objective, repair some gizmo that will unlock random event; or ect, ect, ect....

It just seems like to me in other MMO's, the NPC's have such limited interaction. There are the NPC's that kill you, the NPC's that ignore you, the NPC's that give you a 1-sided speech, and the NPC's that run stores.

In other MMO's, it seems like there are alot of NPC's that just hate the sight of EVERYONE. For example; A raider decides to mug you, do you;

A)Give him all your possessions so he'll leave you alone
B) Comprimise or barter for your life
C) Attempt to Intimidate or Charm the Raider
D) Hit him in the face with the closest thing at hand
E) Pull out your guns and fight for your life

Variety is the spice of life

Adding a lot of NPC dialogue might be important, especially to validate the Speech skill and retain some value to a high Charisma score. I see implementing those elements and any related perks as being problematic. But I'm sure the guys & gals at gamesas can come up with some creative stuff.

I don't think as much dialogue as the recent Beth games is necessary, as those were Single Player adventure games--but the need is there for at least some of it in FOOL. A lot can be added after launch.

What I've seen of New Vegas isn't too bad, how I'm quite strongly in the camp that whilst major roles should fully voice acted and audio dialogue is important to setting such as between NPCs, even if they are discussing mudcrabs :roll:, the developers can use some discretion and omit audio where written text would be superior. In a way a return to the talking head concept of character importance. Why do games studios have to fight and die? War, war never changes : (

I think since its an mmo there will be enough lines (even if its not dialogue choice like earlier games for every NPC).

I'd like to see static dialogue on ordinary mercenaries (no need to change something like that).
Possibly unique companions like in earlier games? Only for the lucky/skilled/adventurous and courageous.

Yes, I'd like to see only important events/NPCs be voiced. Well I guess we're just a couple of problem solvers
