voice chat.

any chance that there will be a voice system. currently using vent in wow, and love it for the following.
- i can set one up for the guild/clan and set a PW to enter.
- i can set up rooms.
- its mostly clear to be able to see who is talking.
- the sound is pretty crisp.

i dont like that there is no overlay of names (xfire does a great job of this)

it would be great if something like this was built into v13. not sure if it would be too taxing on connection speeds or not.

There is a new system out that allows in game directional 3-d voice chat with morphing so that if you play a 8 foot tall brute you sound like it even if you are a 10 year old girl in real life. This would be cool.

Hmm...I'm pretty sure I would be even more scared if the 8 foot tall brute had a voice like a ten year old girl. Does this voice morphing work the other way round?

I'm sure there's a chance it's in or going to be in.

I'd personally rather have, and will use, third party voice programs though.

If you're going to design a proprietary voice communication system for your game, you'd better make damn sure it offers something that third party software doesn't, otherwise you're probably better off spending that dev time / money adding more deathclaws to the lowbie zones. I'd be perfectly content with a game that had no communication beyond a standard chat interface. Maybe you'll sit and sigh, wishing that I were near
Then maybe you'll ask me to come back again
And maybe I'll say "Maybe"

I totally agree with this statement. While a 100% built in communication system would be nice it is just that, nice. If there is time and money left at the end I would say look at this but until then the core game should be the focal point.

I think that adding even just a base voice chat feature would be pretty nice. It allows people that dont know about voice chat software to have an in game option. People that I was for a good long while, only the game had no native voice chat in it. It took months and made things difficult to communicate. So I say a small in game feature at the least.

Most people using VOIP use a 3rd party program...... why?..... because if the game crashes, you can still communicate.

Think this is one of those things that can be added down the line. There's a lot of stuff I'd like to see at launch before an in game voice chat system.

i would love to have built in voice chat for fallot online considering typing is a bich when you are doing stuff such as fighting enemies.

IF YOU HAVE ANY MONEY AND TIME LEFT OVER PLEASE MAKE VOICE CHAT!

HEY WAIT A SEC I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING THATS MIGHT BE TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!!!

Why not make voice chat for fallout online on the gamesas website so that you would simply use your Fonline account info to voice chat on the website!!

Also if the game were to crash it would be ok because you would be talking on the website!!!!!!!!!!
I think have the voice chat on their website would also maybe not affect lag on the actual game itself because it would be on a secondary source!!!!!

YAY!

there's a certain cops and robbers game that implemented an incredibly ambitious voice system in there game. if it actually would have worked it would have bin really cool. the idea is that when you talk the voice comes from your character. and with the 3d sound everyone can here were are you at just from talking. they also had a non working system to change your voice to several other things that didn't work. something like this if it works would be really cool. i will say making it push to talk and being able to mute people is an absolute must. listening to other people unwittingly having what should be a private conversation although funny can be a bit uncomfortable. and there is the occasional greifer that will hang out in the vendor aria blasting horrible music over his voice with no way to shut him off.

I hope they add voice chat. Fighting in dungeons while requiring to communicate to your party is difficult to do through typing.

I think the possibility of voice chat being a part of FOOL is fairly decent. Apparently Masthead has been working to integrate voice chat into Earthrise, and it is not too big a leap to assume that the necessary server/client code for this feature may also be part of the package for FOOL. Image

Maybe a separate program and not on a website because my browser slows down my games whenever I play them. And it will still have the same advantages

And i agree that voice chat is a must because i can't type and do anything else, and its just easier to talk than to try to type out a whole long message, and typing can't even convey it very well. Spelleng es fer nubes

Personally, I'd like a feature of voice chat that would allow me to talk to people outside my group, and I don't just mean in private chat, I mean for RP purposes. Your voice would broadcast outward from your character and slowly get fainter until you can't hear it at all outside of the voice bubble. But I realize that that would probably be spammed with immature people swearing profusely. It's ok if one pops up in a statement by someone (the world's ended, you can't expect complete politeness), but I'm sure that someone would run into the center of a populous settlement and just let fly with all manners of cuss words (yes, cuss, I'm a Southerner). I guess that means enabling a way to turn off people's voices.

This looks like a game where RP is expected, not like the other MMO's, where with all the cookie cutter classes, RP is very difficult. In this game (and all the other Fallouts besides Tactics), since you build your character from the ground up, RP could be very common and fun. I put the 'Skill' in 'Kill.'
Wait, what?

good thing i checked if there was a post about this...

Me and my friends play all the time with chat..using skype..so after all this time my old circuit breaker in the brain switched and said why not use this in PV13...so reading through this forum...I saw a problem if the game crashes..no comm etc...In my opinion if PV13 team is planing something like voice chat (this would be awesome)...why maybe not create some program independent something like skype...call it like Vault-tech communication module or whatever...

Maybe this wouldn't be such a strain to the game itself...because it would work independently, but it would also communicate with the game in my opinion like this:

- a maximum distance from player sets how loud you hear his voice, as the distance increases you hear his voice lower and lower until he mutes...
- so that you can hear only the ones close to you...not the entire world..
- if a player is talking and he is too far so you can't hear him that a sign appears above his head that he is talking, or maybe a message in the bottom left...
- some option like you can select...to hear only your selected friends (in some menu or social tab) loud all the time...maybe mute selected players etc...
- an option to set the microphone or sound loudness of other players (in general all together)...so that you can adjust more/less combat - music - screaming noise...
- if the game crashes on your computer, you can select like emergency broadcast so every friend would hear you loud wherever they are in the game...

If maybe this is too complicated or too expensive or too much time consuming to develop...than maybe not only go with the standard keyboard communication...but an option to record your own voice saying a line or word (help..heal..cover..6 o'clock..die punk...)and place it in a quick key like from F1 to F8...so you can choose what to say or place some charge music, or a line from some movie (in a limited duration)... this would be somewhat new I suppose... and I THINK everyone would like this ... only if it would have to pass authorization for nasty language...if nothing you can do that with texted lines also but to read in combat is somewhat difficult... I'm against voice chat because I don't want a bunch of 12 year olds calling me a fag and a noob, which is probably what would happen (see: Xbox Live). Vent works fine if you need voice chat.
