What do you guys think would be a good point in the Fallout timeline for the game to take place?

Check out this timeline.

If we exclude F3 I would like after the Fallout2 when the old big threat has been erased and new ones can rise up ^^

The only thing that would be needed is to do a little research :P You take up a discussion on how people ended the game and then form it after that poll.
Like how many got these endings, like if the majority got the ending where Modoc became prosperous, then you could have a prosperous Modoc in V13.
Or the majority helped Gecko and got the movie when Vault city waged war on Gecko etc, im sure you get it.

If there where to be after F2 timeline and if V13 occurs in the area of the old games I would like to see something like this. Image

There is a timeline on the wiki (added to OP).

Due to the multiple endings, the Dev team would need to pick the most interesting and open ended one. IMO.

The above time line includes events from the FO3 story arc, which should be noted on the wiki as of their source.

If much time passes, then there will be more settlements and a way to justify more people in a post apoc world.

I think the timeline should be just prior to the first Fallout, at about the time that Harold is just starting to sprout a tree out of his head. That time period has been highly referenced in all the other games, but we've never really visited that era.

I also think it would be incredibly funny if you could meet the vaultdweller as he's searching for the waterchip. Give yourself the opportunity to destroy the timelines of all the other games.

I would like it after Fallout 2, so it's essentially Van Buren storyline in a MMO. It would be incredible.

Or it could be also before Fallout 1. I'll be pleased with any timeline (but specially with the one of Van Buren). Image

Here's hoping for a Beatles-themed quest on V13.

It would be very interesting to play prior to FO1, maybe. I am leaning more towards a Van Buren era myself.

Probably the 2090's. During this period, there would not be many already make settlements giving chance to players joining together to create towns and develop them to become small nations. Of course, this mean's the game cannot take place in an already visited area but still - It would be an interesting experience and would raise the level of player interaction.

Just as a side note, I would really really like to see variable TIME play a role in V13. In the Fallout series, you could always set the pip-boy to wait until a certain time of day in which to play. This was useful for waiting until people are asleep to break into thier house and steal all thier stuff.

What I suggest for v13 is having several different versions of the same world/people and events that all take place at different times, So instead of there just being "JunkTown" there could be "Junktown Day" and "Junktown Night". Also it would be nice if there were an ambush feature that would allow to simulate the wait time for an ambush; like you go to Ambush spot A, and then wait for something to come along and then spawn a random event like being attacked by raiders, rats, or coming across a group of friendly travelers. I'm also hoping for a fast travel that utilizes this same mechanism. Crafting is another issue that is time consuming, it doesn't take 3 seconds to fabricate a new gun, it takes time.... but that time is boring, it would be a little more effective to just get bumped to the next time zone after crafting.

I'm not suggesting that waiting be free either, I feel that there should be a cost associated with everything, and waiting always ends up costing me food and water. So without suitable food and water, you are stuck in a time zone or place until you can gather the resources to elapse time.

I hope that the timeline for the MMO will exclude Fallout 3 as if it never happened

I think it would be best if they did not refer to any of the events of FO3, but also did not contradict them. This way they would neither discourage FO3 fans, nor FO1/2 fans who dislike FO3 from playing the game. The Vault - Fallout Wiki * Fallout Online * Fallout IRC Channel * Fallout: New Vegas

Yeah, but its fun to ponder. >:+)

If it is already decided then we just have to wait, otherwise maybe some of out incoherent babble will spark some ideas for the team. >:+)

Actually that's not a bad idea right there. They could make it very pre-FO1 and really set the bar for Fallout. Going to that stage of the Fallout timeline would really limit the defunctness between game versions and also keep from running into limits within a MMO timeline.

Take Star Wars Galaxies for example, they started out around the Episode 4/5 timeframe and years down the road went all over the place with Clone Wars content and then trying to follow the movie releases of Episodes 1/2/3 to use for content in the game. Of course there's no pending Fallout movie/s that we are aware of (although that'd be cool), starting from the begining would really limit the version differences and chopping up the main storyline to be tailored for a MMO lifespan.

Think of it this way, if they started out with Fallout 2 or 3 era they'd have to focus on from that point on, which of course there's plenty to use but they wouldn't really be able to roll back time. Where as if they start from point A in the timeline and progress on from there they could essentially run a longer course in their "MMO Life" or contract if you will.

Let's all Remember that on the Beta page - during the little scene with all of the photographs being thrown on the table - carved into the wood of the table it says "The Master Lives".

That either suggests that it takes place before Fallout one - which in the context of the carving would be odd - or It takes places in the timegap between one and two.

We know that the master used Psychic commands to control his Supermutants, and several quests in Fallout 3 and New Vegas centre around Super Mutants attempting to get over the fact that the master is dead.

It could also suggest false hopes, someone might pretend to be the incarnation of the master, or the master might actually have survived the end of fallout 1, depending on the outcome and he have been in hiding since the supermutants lost much of their power.

Before fallout 1 I am very unsure of since it says: 'The Master Lives' and I don't know if that makes any sense since... well why would anyone write that before anything actually happens.

What I'm trying to say is that it don't give a specific timetable at all, there are too many possibilities atm. Image

VERY good point. If that was to be a timeline teaser I would say you are probably on the money with between FO1 and FO2 as the focus of the game.

And, in theory it would be a VERY good place to start from if they were careful in their content selection for the overall MMO story. They could quite possibly run the course of the MMO to laps over FO2 and almost rewrite FO2 but in a MMO figure over the course of the years within the MMO. Either way if that is their intent for the timeline I think it'd be pretty good.
