Character creation suggestions.

Post » Mon Aug 03, 2009 6:17 pm

Hi I would like to suggest few features to the character creation.

- Muscularity slider for both male and female.
- Tattoos
- Robotic Prosthetic arms or legs

That would be nice Thanks!

It would indeed be nice to have more than just a single base body to choose from. Tattoos would definitely be nice, especially for those folk who are going to go the way of the raider. Hopefully some kind of barber/tailor/etc. types of NPCs are around who can help with additional post-character customization.

Cybernetic replacement parts would be nice. I would prefer to see something like this as a feature in-game post-creation actually. Image

Cybernetic parts? hmm... would their be a limit? I would get all my limbs replaced, wear combat armor with a power helmet, have energy weapons and a power fist, and I would be a robot. I would then start a player faction of only robot people.

I would then get the entire faction to run through the wastes, killing everything. A post-apocalyptic robot uprising.

WE ARE THE FUTURE! I put the 'Skill' in 'Kill.'
Wait, what?

I support this idea. Clank, clank you're dead!

While I really hope FOOL has some nifty robots wandering the wastes, I somehow doubt we would actually be able to play one. We won't know for sure yet for a while I think, so may as well dream big. Image

IMO, your initial character creation should more or less be the clean slate you start with, but there should be tattoo parlors, barber shops, ect in game so if you want a tattoo you can go get one. There could even be varying quality, for example a raider giving another raider the equivalent of a prison tattoo or someone who is practically a surgeon using vault technology to essentially recreate the mona lisa on your backside.

Some tattoos, markings, ect could even be a reflection of what you've done as a character, the forehead slaver tattoo from FO2 comes to mind.

It would be really interesting if SPECIAL played into what your character looked like. For instance you were limited on how muscular you can make your character look based on your strength score and what traits/perks you got (small frame comes to mind). It shouldn't be set in stone, but you shouldn't be able to look like a body builder that can bench 500 ibs if you only have a 4 strength. Charisma could also play into it, for instance if you had a charisma below a certain score you would be forced to have a facial scar of some sort (the actual location and appearance of the scar should be the players choice though) but a character with a higher charisma score should find it easier to make a character that looks like a super model or a movie star. I'm not sure how it would actually work, but it would be interesting to see what it would be like if it was actually done. Charisma would probably be really tough to do, but strength would probably be fairly easy.

I don't know about anyone else, but i'm tired of seeing almost every character in a game look like someone right out of either an action movie, swimsuit magizine, or GQ regardless of what thier actual stats are.

Would having the 'SPECIAL' character creation system in dah game mak me rally stupid is me tack badder interlect ptz?
For instance, if I chose fairly high intelligence I could communicate better with other players and understand what they are saying to me.

I must jump in and say that FOnline:2238 have a very fun intelligence system, IF you have intelligence below 4, some words will be changed :D like if you write "I" it will be changed to "me" and "you" will be "yoo", so if you want to say "I like you" it will come out as "Me like yoo". A fun touch.. and punishment for having so low intelligence ^^ Image

Well, in FO1+2 if you made a char with a really low int, they would communicate mostly with grunts.

Also, the idea of being a ghoul is kindof neat, but remember that in FO1+2 ghouls moved almost twice as slow as smoothskins.

i know ^^ the fun thing in fonline2238 is that they changed the words if you wrote to other people, talking to vendors (and other NPC people) was like in f1,f2 too. Image

But it'd be a pain to implement in an MMO, after all most people don't even spell out half of what thier typing. "1's l33t s0 L2P, n00b"

My biggest problem with most MMo's is that you cant really create a female character that looks formidably. They all look like girls from playboy. If i play female in FO i want her to look like she can defend herself and do some damage ( i usually play physical tough classes ). The option to make a muscular female wont hurt anyone, but it would add fun for those who would like that.
Also linking muscle size to strength stat, would be awesome with me, but the people that dont like muscle on women wouldnt be so happy about that lmao... Strength at 10 should make muscles pretty huge. ;)

You have to let us be Super Mutants somehow.
Hell, even by choice if we choose to jump into a vat of F.E.V. :D

I agree with
a) Wide option of character models, more than just tattoos, hair colors and a bit of change in height. I think gamesas should aim for character models different enough in theory that we can eliminate that horrid disembodied coloured text that flys around attacking avatars. Sure we're at the mercy of everyone making basically the same character.
On the above posters point, I would definitely wanted to see more realistic females. Getting punched out by a normal lass, yeah that's cool. Getting thrown around by a stick insect with briast implants is just infuriatingly stupid. +1 to muscle size being related to relevent S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats.

b) Cybernetics and ghoulification/supermutation should be in-game options after character creation. Cybernetics should also be very rare, to fit both the setting and the value augmentation would offer. When it comes to ghouls, gamesas should throw out the Bible regarding FEV there. Think up something else, too much FEV/too many supersoldiers would have been counterproductive to the Pre-War government. It just bugs me, they wanted a sheep populance and they wanted expendable weapons but I don't think they would have wanted to combine the two.

Unfortunately I'm having trouble imagining as much use for Intelligence as was in the eariler games, as I think most options should be down to the player's intelligence. But at least then the wasteland won't be as populated by extraordinarily high IQ geniuses as the rest of the internet. Why do games studios have to fight and die? War, war never changes : (

I'm really hoping stuff like cybernetics becomes sort of end-game loot or rewards for doing hard(or hardish) solo/group tasks and things in-game post-creation.

IMO (and i already said this, but i'm not sure if it was this thread) the characters appearance should be largely linked and determined by special stats. Str is just one stat, charisma could also play a huge role, after all it's hard to explain how someone with a charisma of 1 looked like some super model or movie star.

Also, traits should play into it as well. For example, the small frame perk should force you to make a character that has a small frame. And the night person perk should make it so you can't make a char with bronze tanned skin. The appearance of our characters should be influenced by our SPECIAL and traits.

I dont know if anyone remembers a recruit named "Box" from fallout tactics. According to her description she was so buff she could barely stuff herself into the powerarmor. Hehe i would love to be able to create a character built like that in FO.
