Requirements/Monthly Fees

Post » Tue Aug 04, 2009 10:52 pm

I'm new to the gamesas forums and would to, first of all, say hello. I've played both Fallout 3 and Fallout:New Vegas (not the ones from gamesas though) and was absolutely ecstatic when I heard of a post-apocalyptic MMO. What I'm wondering about Fallout:Online though is will it be one of payment (just buy the actual game like Guild Wars) or monthly fees like WoW. Also, what will the system requirements be for the game?

Details have not been announced.

A final decision regarding fees has not been made, but it'll probably be whatever the industry standard is. It may be different depending if your in the US or playing in another country (the payment type is most likely going to be localized to whatever the local standard is).

We're making too big of a game to have no monthly fees or some kind of micropayment. There has to be income in order to produce additional content, maintain the servers, provide customer support and so on. TANSTAAFL.

I personally prefer a fairly typical monthly subscription. Makes it easy and probably saves me money in the long run compared to micropayments.

Don′t ignore the prepaid gamecard option, please. If you ask me that should be a standard in the game industry.

normally i would not even look at p2p games but for fallout online i am more than willing to make an exception if the quality is up to par and it's not a greed program that asks for money to play, then more money for costumes, then even more money for extra content and so on.
cryptic studios is a fine example of how NOT to do things (cheap games that almost always use the same outdated engine ,little support and you pay for almost every step you take)
i also agree with Arcanix , don't ignore the prepaid option. a lot of people do not have the option to commit to a monthly fee (no visa, debt arrangements or simply because their parents say no.) being able to purchase timecards is therefor beneficial for everyone. you can get more customers, customers have more options.

mind me, i still think the whole "

is total bs, guild wars showed everyone that there is no need to let people pay for the time they spend online.
but if you make the game worthy of the name FALLOUT then i don't mind at all.
i've been playing fallout since the first game came out (i know..i feel old) and i'll play this one too if it's not a "pay for every little thing" kind of game.

in the end what i'm trying to say is, if you really want to make it a p2p game please and i mean PLEASE
make sure that
1. the game is worth paying for
2. the game does not become another cashcow (see the cryptic example)

do that and i am sure both you and your customers will be enjoying your hard work for years to come.

p.s= dont think that was a bad first post :)

I am okay with EITHER a monthly sub OR a f2p (lotro style, f2p with sub option) type setup. I DO NOT want a monthly sub WITH a Item shop (STO.) All of the good stuff gets stuck in the shop, forcing you to pay for the game AND buy all of the new content. Either/or is good. Felt terribly burned by Cryptic after paying $50 for the game, $15/mo to play THEN having to buy points to get the stuff which should have been included to begin with. I said screw it after the first update. No thank you and if gamesas does that, heaven help them. The only thing keeping STO afloat is that it is Star Trek.

Please stick to sub with vanity mini-mall. Forget going full on MT. I can't get with games that are nickel and diming me to death. This is the game I have waited for since I first popped Fallout 1 into my comp way back in the day.

I've always thought the game UI lent itself to an MMO model, and the skill system was/is perfect for character customization. Can't wait.
