Slavers?

Post » Sun Aug 09, 2009 10:49 pm

How do you all think they fit into this? Played or NPC?
If they are(become) a playable faction, who would they enslave? I would hate life if i got rolled up by slavers and i have to start over because im stuck make big rocks into small rocks all day for no caps... maybe if you do, you lose all your gear and use your "Sneak" skill to get away? But at that point, youd be hunted for being a run-a-way the way slavers do... On the other hand, say you join a slaver band for some quick caps, who would you enslave? Just NPCs? If you enslave a specific NPC would he/she dissapear for everyone else who plays?

The best answer to these questions has got to be "Dont become a slave" or "Dont join the slavers"... but thats the great thing about Fallout... you can do what you damn well please, as long as you can live with yourself at the end of the day...

I'd have no problems just being able to capture NPCs, or even having essential NPCs immune from capturing. As long as there was a challenge in it, not just run up and click your 'Capture NPC' ability (i.e. sneak+sap, traps, poisons, non-lethal melee fight, etc.)

I'd rather have them as NPC.s, there could ofc be some character choice that makes you an ex-slave.

Due to the inherent racial nature of slavery, I highly doubt it will be anything more than slaver npc's. They might have a set faction you can befriend, but being able to actually take slaves will probably never be an option.

I always killed the slavers (free xp, guns and ammo dammit! plus, you could pretend you took over the house :D) ^^ Still would be cool if there is a slaver faction, in which you can do mission for them, rounding up slaves etc, but ofc, that comes with the price of a tattoo :P

I personally like the idea that you can screw up your character like that (get a tattoo that will always stick with you, making some people hate you), sure there might be some benefits to joining them but some people will start to hate you :D Image

Players should be able to be slavers, if for no other reason then the fact that you are typically given that option when encountering any faction that isn't the boss faction of the game (Master's Army in FO1, Enclave in FO2).

It's been established in previous FOs, so it should remain that way in FOOL.

Hey I took the option to become a supermutant and loyally stood guard at Navarro. You keep your dirty alternative endings to yourself! :P Why do games studios have to fight and die? War, war never changes : (

slavers are a part of the game, thats just how it is.
depending on how it's done, it would not even be that bad to become one yourself (FO3: the pitt for example).

there should be some good that comes with the bad though, something that makes it worth the trouble but isn't essential.
weapon skins or just a weapon, same should work with armor, etc..
off course it should not be easy to capture a living player and fresh characters should be shielded from slavery.
maybe even cap the number of times you can become a slave and possibly tie it to a bonus perk (slavery could harden you a little?)
it all depends on how it's implemented, but i wouldn't say no to it before i see what they can come up with.

Player faction, NPC slaves, Slaver vs. non-slaver pvp or a bounty type system but against good guys (high karma, bam slavers now have a bounty on your head). The opposite faction could be NCR.

Expanding on this...

6 Factions

NCR
Slaver
BoS
Enclave (remnants)
Followers of the apocalypse
Mercenaries

Each the opposite of each other similar to a yin yang / good vs. evil / idea vs. idea balance

NCR <–> Slaver
BoS <–> Follower
Enclave <-> Merc

As well these factions could go with your race or be closed to certain races, etc

Human (wastelands)
Ghoul
Super mutant
Deathclaws (survivors of fallout 2, vault 13?)
Nightkin
Vault dweller (vault just opened, populist exploring)
Etc

What you could then do with this is then have one “good” side vs. one “evil” side though it would be more interesting, if not difficult (maybe just a little) to have all these factions vs. each other or even a tri system (e.g. BoS vs. Enclave, merc is third party involved can be hostile to either)

Anyways just an idea on how cross factions / races could work.

Leave out the good/evil part and I concur. I don't mind having events/actions that will give negative or positive karma, but lets hope that Fallout Online avoid the everyday run of the mill terms like GOOD, EVIL, NUETRAL, etc.

As a player faction or NPCs would be the best solution imo.
And of course, not being able to actually capture other players. Why? Because that would make people quit playing...

Slavers could be a Player faction, you could have the option to capture any none important npc.
Their you go job done.

Unless you have Hard core pvp where you could do that, but i think that would just attract 14 year old trolls.

I would agree a karma based system would be the best way though I tend to find in mmo's that pvp works faction based (side A good vs side b evil) but again if they could make it work were karma is more of a factor would be a imo a better game experience.

Sometimes it is more the preception of things than the actual mechanics that make something work or not.

I would like to see Fallout avoid the stereotypical use of Good and Evil. Let the players determine in their mind what is good, evil, bad, awesome, etc.

Having the word and use of Karma working in the game can be to good effect.
Having Reputation in the game would also be good.

Dave, if there are factions, wouldn't you consider yourself good, and the opposing bad? And the ones in the middle as something like "meh..." ?

Say that you're a Slaver, then you are an enemy to people of NCR. You consider them bad simply because your leader says so. But you like people from New Reno, since they buy slaves from you, but Reno guys think you're "Meh..." since you are expensive..

But yeah, karma and rep is a must.

Also, enslaving player characters won't work, because slavers keep slaves in line with threats and force, which means nothing since death/defeat has been stated to be none too harsh. E.g. fvck you Mr Slaver, you only own my temporarily dead body. Why do games studios have to fight and die? War, war never changes : (
