Wow, I pretty much love you right now. I have no idea WHAT IN THE WORLD that has to do with anything, but it sure as hell fixed it for me too. You're awesome, thanks a lot!

Having the same issue, unfortunately, Windows 7 x64 here as well and no fix in sight. I've tried launching from the folder in hopes to bypass the launcher, I've tried reinstalling, I've tried updating drivers and even your little trick. All to no avail. If another fix is discovered it would be nice, I'm sick of seeing "Fallout New Vegas is Detecting Your Video Hardware.... ect." over and over with the inability to launch the game.

This makes sense!

The community loads an overlay DLL into Direct3D. I could see how that -might- cause some trouble. It's not unheard of - some games on Steam outright don't support it!

You could have a pair of 7300s, for all that you told anyone here, and that wouldn't be enough.

When you choose to be forthcoming about hardware, perhaps then another gamer can make a suggestion for you.

I don't think I can properly express my level of disappointment. I've reinstalled the game twice thus far, I've tried the supposed "Quick Fixes," I've updated all my drivers, I've restarted my computer and Steam client, I've given it a few hours to just sit and simmer, I've done everything that I could possibly imagine in hopes to fix a broken thing. My frustration is absolute and it really concerns me that the game, at least in my case, is apparently set to automatically detect my video hardware perpetually without actually letting me play the game but that's not to say it doesn't tease me by at least letting me click the "Play" button because it does. In case someone stops by and becomes curious, as before I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, GTX275, Intel i7, 6GB DDR3 ram so I couldn't fathom a scenario where it would be my hardware that prevents me from opening this game. Furthermore, despite the fact that this may not be a Steam issue as I understand that, I would like to convey my hatred for the product none-the-less. From now on, if I find out that a game for the PC required Steam, I'll either miss out on that game or get it for a console. Gar, I be angry. So if anyone has any solutions, please! I implore you to assist, I'll give you cookies.

Big thanks for the 'uncheck Steam community from within properties' tip. That did the trick for me. I finally got to play for about an hour this early morning after reading this tip. Don't know about the save game bug yet, I'll cross tha bridge when I get to it. My rig is Win7- 64 bit with 8 gig DDR2 Ram and 2.6 ghz q9450 quad, and a gtx460 graphics card. :foodndrink: :liplick:
