Long time no see, i've been gone for some time (been working on my own stuff, still read the forums but working on my stuff is very busy :/)
I wanted to come back to the forums and talk to you lot, and theres something thats been on my mind for so long that i wanted to talk to you about!
That is, Fallouts art style!
Over the years, fallouts art style has been something that was very, VERY big in my art and in my life, i was 10 years old when i first got my hands on Fallout 1 and the style just amazed me, back then, this was the greatest style i had EVER seen, since that day, i was hooked to Fallout 1 & 2's unique art style, and thats what makes me worry.
Now, 12 years on and we are so advanced in game making that this art style is obviously very rare and hard to achive again in a fully 3d environment, i dont know fully how to put it into words but fallout 1 and 2 really had a 50's futuristic retro feel to its environments, mixed with the apocalyptic setting, but it always had a certain flair to it, i dont know if its just something nostalgic i find within the art but it just seemed so naturally fictional, something that you wouldnt obviously see today but for some reason fits absoloutely perfectly into the reality they made, it was brown and gritty, yet so filled with colour, it was advanced yet completely simple, there wasnt much clutter in buildings, the textures made it so the need for too much clutter was less, for example, being in any shack would be a lot worse if it was filled with rubbish compared to the texture work.
So now onto what really worrys me, is how gamesas intend to recreate that feel in v13, with what we have today people dont appreciate the older art style, they want New HD graphics and such, whereas i dont care for it, to be honest the closest you could get to an exact feel and art style for V13 thats based on 1 and 2 is to make it look like it did talking to characters in the first 2, in the first 2 you use to talk to NPC's and see environments from the characters perspective, that also looked fantastic and you can get a lot of examples from them.
What do you guys think, do you want them to move on with the style into a different yet same style, or stick to the old guns and bring back some nostalgic feel?
