there's a similar show in canada(no idea if the actual show is canadian or not) called survivorman. sorry no link for it atm. about a guy who's plunked down in the middle of nowhere in some remote part of the world and has to survive with what he can make, live off the land and his wits kinda thing. sounds like the same concept as your show link dave.

those 2 shows are right there with man vs. wild,though bear grilles is a bit nasty compared to those guys,i mean come on who drinks water from elephant feces?*shudder*
though i think they'd get more inspiration from the tv show Jeremiah since it's actually a post apocalyptic tv show. maybe even from the "reality",and i use the term reality very loosely since there's absolutely nothing real about reality shows,show the colony .
