ok i just realized that no one has come up with any city ideas. ok it doesn't matter where its at.
just name it
give description
size(camp, out post, town, city, capital, and what the f*%k is that.)
race that lives there.
here let me give a example
(name)box town.
(description)it is a town in a old warehouse the houses are made of boxes hence box town.
(size) town.
(race) ghoul.
see now show me what kind of towns you can come up with.

These threads calling for numerical suggestions are just silly when there is very little detail on what gamesas is going to do with the (Earthrise) engine or how anything is going to work, so please stop it. That said, a discussion of ideas on towns and cities is definitely worth some thought being invested, especially without the incessant repetition of just stating "there should be player controlled cities" and nothing more.

As I said the thread linked below, I like the idea of somewhat intact Pre-War urban areas seen in the offical concept art. Rather than take up space reposting the image here, see the original thread by one of the staff artists.

The three places I really wanted to have more to explore were the Boneyard (Los Angeles) , the Washington D.C. Metro area and the Pitt (Pittsbrough?). Although walking back and forth does get annoying, when you have a "city" of 50 people, at little space between usable dwellings doesn't hurt the illusion, so long as they're still considered the same community. Why do games studios have to fight and die? War, war never changes : (

There are very good ways to make a city become bigger than the developers can make it. Take a look at Taris from kotor2, you only get a few places to walk at but you can see that the city is huge in the background, or neverwinter nights(2?), in there you can walk up to some parts of the city and get a scenic view over the entire city that is very big, but you can't technically walk around all those parts, as I said they just fill the illusion of a big town.

I wouldn't complain about something like that since I'm getting tired of walking in to "big" towns in games and finding that it only has 20-30 citizens in it and everyone just stands still at one point the entire time... Image

"I wouldn't complain about the thing I am then going to complain about..."

Wait, what? Why do games studios have to fight and die? War, war never changes : (

Please whatever you do do NOT make "scenic" areas that you can not go into. That is ridiculous, instead maybe you can just make the whole world empty at first with the exceptions of a few generic NPCs like "shop keeper" "scavenger" who can... um... reproduce every like hour or so adding one more NPC and this could fill the game world.
Or just have a few NPCs and seeing as how everyone wants player controlled cities and non combat jobs let the players fill those civilian posts.

the only problem there would need to be a lot of beta testers so they can build the citys, and some people would get board being a merchint Image

Seatle, defenitly
-half the city could be flooded (boats would make this cool)
-map about 2.5x new vegas map
-fogged areas
- spots that require teamwork to access (operational cranes, giant groups of monsters)
-underwater missions (spearguns required)

SEATLE - half the city could be floodedwhich would require either swimming or boats in some areas. it would be about 2.5x the size of new vegas. it would include the Space Needle, the rock and roll history museum, and other main seatle locations. big enough to where vehicles would come in handy (but some thaty need repair to operate)
anything else?

Name: Camelot.
Description: A walled city.
Race: Human. Allegedly.

Camelot is a city where teh BOS has set up shop. People sing and dance all dayl, and it only rains at 1400 sharp, for 15 minute.
It really is a silly palce. Best to stay away.

Well as for beta testers Im sure gamesas could round up a few volunteers. And if not then they know to not make cities that big, maybe to pass that off in the story just say Its been really chaotic and everyone gets killed so therefore they cannot build a metropolitan city.

City: Ethopia
Conditions: Very bad, Medium radtioan
Race's: Humans, A bit of ghouls

"Biotory" (Biologic laboratory)
Little town on the surface, and large city under ground.

Image

Under ground there is "clean room" style (google for "intel" clean room pics), fresh air, a lot of things that gamer will be able to understand only after he will teach their story.

Image

size - (on the surface) One person, old men, keeper of entries. (Creator of Biotory as secret).
Under ground, 3-5 levels, "alien" technology, (technology what can`t be able to use by simple humans - only by bio-humans, because they technology/weapons base on nano cells in their blood).
under ground, hi technology city, (for big lvl`s 30-50).

race - Bio-humans, androids, at half humans, at half nano-robots.

I would suggest that there are only a few pre-created citys/towns and that the players, with items they collect from the world, create their own towns. This would allow different servers to be different and allow players feel more attatched to the game. Also, if there are going to be any form of guilds in the game, they could create forts with places for the members to trade with protection from other players and/or NPCs and choose a more tactical location to set up.
