Fallout Tactics: Best Game I've Ever Played

Post » Wed Aug 19, 2009 9:49 am

Seriously. Even better than the original. I'm a hardcoe Fallout fan, been so for a long time, don't give me any of this Bethesda garbage. But honestly, Fallout Tactics is not only my favorite in the series, its the best game I've ever played. Here's why:

1. Took the simple, compelling storyline of the first Fallout and turned it into a epic masterpiece. Like taking "The Hobbit" into the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Have to find water to save your vault? Cool, but not as cool as sacrificing your life for the aid of humanity, vis a vi, the Calculator. This game is focused around the fate of the U.S. and the two huge Brotherhood factions. So legit.

2. Took it to the next level with units. For the first time, Robots and Reavers appeared. And there's none of that retarded Robco garbage: this is Terminator style. The storyline by itself is probably my favorite aspect within this game, and it shines here. The entire Reavers story at the end is so interesting.

3. Vehicles: Hummers, Scouts, Tanks. Wow.

4. Energy weapons were doubled in this game, making them much more important and adding another interesting way to play.

5. Modding. You can play the entire game with a deathclaw if you know how to code a little. No joke.

6. Random encounters=way more of them, much better ones.

7. Being able to play with a squad just made the entire game so much more compelling, tactical, and fun.

8. And people say Tactics wasn't cannon. Get out of here. If Tactics isn't cannon than Fallout 2 isn't canon. There are clearly inconsistencies between the first two games anyway. gamesas obviously didn't design the games with a trilogy or multiple story line involved so what's the point of debating over whether something is "canon." Get over yourself. I'll take Tactics over Bethesda any day of the week.

Nice to meet a fellow fan ;p

1. Took the simple, compelling storyline of the first Fallout and turned it into a epic masterpiece. Like taking "The Hobbit" into the Lord of the Rings trilogy. More or less can support it.

2. Took it to the next level with units. For the first time, Robots and Reavers appeared. And there's none of that retarded Robco garbage: this is Terminator style. The storyline by itself is probably my favorite aspect within this game, and it shines here. The entire Reavers story at the end is so interesting.

IMHO "Robco garbage" fits into Fallout world much better than Terminator-style robots. But just imho.

3. Vehicles: Hummers, Scouts, Tanks. Wow.

Yep. Other Fallouts certainly lack vechicles that have been spared the nuclear holocaust. Even the highwayman is broken at first... But I'm not really sure whether a real-world hummer fits in this game.. :D

4. Energy weapons were doubled in this game, making them much more important and adding another interesting way to play.

I'm not entirely sure if we should really judge this game by amount of guns..

5. Modding. You can play the entire game with a deathclaw if you know how to code a little. No joke.

And you can play the B******* Fallouts as Darth Vader ;)

7. Being able to play with a squad just made the entire game so much more compelling, tactical, and fun.

That's why it's called "Tactics", after all =)

Yup, get over yourself. You ask what's the point of debating - and you're clearly trying to start a debate with above ;) . Everyone can have his own opinion, but after all it's the developers who whill decide in the next game what events from previous games are considered "canon" and what events just... didn't happen.

While i'm not sure that this is the right place for this topic... here I go.

Fallout tactics is one of my alltime favorite games. It was also a very difficult game which also applead to me. I'm playing it right now and still frustraights me in a positive way. I agree with you on all points except 2.

1. While I do agree the storyline for Tactics is underrated, I also think it wasn't done in a way that set the player as the center of the story. This made it feel like there was no storyline. Yes I know cultured gamers know better, but it still isn't enough to make it a game that is widely accepted.

2. Getting out of here because I think Tactics isn't cannon. If this is how it should be then gamesas who has said themselves that tactics didn't fit into the cannon they wanted for FOOL, they need to get outta here.

I think the arguement about wither or not tactics is cannon isn't constructive. Instead we should focus more on what tactics did well and it did alot very well.

If you liked tactics you should give JA2 a try. Another drunk conquistador conquering the governor's ball...

Sweet, a FoT thread :D

I love FoT as well ^^ I get so sad when some people rush down tactics just because it's a bit too linear and stuff like that :( It's a really good game, with good story and the combat is just awesome :P

Sure I can agree that FoT is not canon but it's a damn good game. Image

i admit i played it. i admit i liked it. I liked FO1/FO2 better, but there were ssome qualities of FOT that were better too (like the ability to actually CONTROL my followers).

I thought FoT was an awesome combat improvment. Not as much story but hey the combat totally made up for it. I had always hoped for a mmo using that system but its way long gone now.

Fallout Tactics was a better game than Fallout 2, that I will admit. Name is Cakester btw. I wish we had Fallout 1's Game, with Fallout 2's gambling and Extras, with Fallout Tactics added dynamics and tileset.
