[Concept Art] 10 Frozen Shipyard

Post » Mon Aug 24, 2009 12:25 am

Hey Everyone,

I just wanted to clarify the purpose of these exploratory concept art pieces that I been posting.
They were really early pre-production images that we were exploring with Jason Anderson at the beginning of the project.

The purpose of images is to "explore" ideas, settings, color, mood, environments and to see how far we can push them visually. Some may be way out of the realm of possibilities, others have elements that will be used and/or expanded on.

These images also help the designers like Chris Taylor to fuel design ideas and stories.

These images are not the actually in game art, or anything in that nature. They were randomly selected to show the fans and see what the reaction would be.
I feel it’s a good way of keeping in touch with the fans. It's great to read your “constructive reasoning" and input on these images.

There are many more images that we have that you will one day get to see.

On a final note;
Think of the concepts as notes, or drafts before one was to write a book. Not all of these note or ideas end up in the final book but they do serve a purpose.

Thank you all for all the feedback..

Here one more for the holidays. ;)

Interesting.

Nice to see different settings. And lighting and backgrounds.

Hmm. Maybe a vault under the ice pack

There are times, I wonder how much of Fallout is similar to the Morrow Project game.

I gotta say I have been checking this forums a lot more since the release of the early concept art.

I like the fact that you guys are looking into doing different weather conditions, I have always wondered what it would be like if it rained.

There are a few games I am REALLY looking forward to, and I can't wait to see what made it into this game and how this one differs from the other MMOs. Which I have always found get boring after level 30, it starts to feel like I am paying to go to work.

P.S. What happened to concept art number eight?

In my opinion, this is the best concept art. It's so inspiring, it says to me that there's always hope in a dark future, a new dawn, a new beginning...

I hope that concept art is included in the Game. Even if it's minimal, I want that in the game. Image

Here's hoping for a Beatles-themed quest on V13.

I love it...snow...destroyed ship...the only remark is that the position of that ship is never going to appear in reality...by sinking no...also to convert it into living quarters in that position...no...I now this because I used to work on them....

My proposition would be an Aircraft carrier or submarine...on some rocks in the middle of the desert...seen it in some movies like Soldier - Kurt Russel at the scrap planet...also I believe Waterworld...that city underwater - giant derelict submarine...anyway it must lay flat - it's just gravity -
These areas could use as cities or bases...just make a hole in the hull...they have their own power ...desalinization machinery that converts sea water into drinkable water...and so on... Its better to live 3 days as a Lion, then spend the rest of your life as a hyena!

to me the blown up sub makes me think that the enclave moved up north for the winter
but it is nice to see more of a different weather in v13 especially since in the trilogy there isnt a lot of weather. The main thing i keep thinking of is how in fallout 2 the enclave had an oil rig but the brotherhood is the army well maybe the enclave has a secret army base kept away or something. A skill you guys should add is saluaging type skill where in the shipyard oil and other things would be useful. Otherthan that keep up the good work and i also hear from around the neighbor hood that in your guys' trade agreement that you didn't need the 30m to cover the game you just need it to be in full production ;) good luck. Love the thought of different weather conditions. I would lead to more of a interesting game rather than just miles of desert. are there any more concept ideas regarding different weather conditions?

Adding "Cold" to the mix of dangerous things in this game is likely going to make this area relentless. I like it.

Hailing from Sweden and looking out my window right now it's snowing - so yeah, snow in some parts of FOOL would be really nice. Perhaps implement a random snow flake creator ;)

I love the concept art and I am really looking forward to playing this game. To me it doesn't matter if it's 2D or 3D as long as it doesn't get turned into a shooter. There are quite a number of us who dislike most other MMOs shiny surface. We also want to be able to play dark and sinister characters because we are all huge teddybears in real life. Or 10 feet bunnies? I can't remember which.

Playing through Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, I got bored of the landscape. I reckon we need areas that have snow etc. Not just a large desert.

I don't understand how you didn't see snow in Fallout New Vegas, theres a whole area covered in it. I'm not going any further into detail as I'll spoil it. But really, every NPC gives it away and its in the loading screen. Well I guess we're just a couple of problem solvers

Sorry. I haven't played the whole New Vegas game. But the time I have spent playing it, I haven't seen the snow.

I really like the idea of a polar region in fallout. With vivid blue skies during the day and exotic northern lights at night. It's interesting to wonder what effect the nukes would have had on the ozone and what they in turn would do to the way the sky looks. I like the idea that it would make it even more pristine looking even if not so in fact. The idea of gigantic mutant grizzlies, polar bears or killer whales and me with just my ice axe... /shiver (rofl... or maybe vicious mutant penguins who act more like hyenas than birds... maybe that's going a little far, but I couldn't help it.)

What were the governments of the world secretly doing in the remote icy regions? What did the cold preserve?
