WHAT? no underwater gun battles!

Post » Wed Oct 06, 2010 2:12 am

So I was playing Pier-17, I think that's what the map is called for multiplayer mode. Anyways, I was playing in that map and I jumped in the water to kill this other person that was in the water also. I soon found out that I couldn't gun him down underwater. We both had to scramble for high ground just so we could pull out our weapons and shoot each other. Crytek please do something about this!

because guns don't work underwater (except for the glock 17) because of the pressure exerted by the water and you can only get one shot off before it jams.

Did you hear your self, you clearly stated that guns can fire underwater, even if it is only 1 shot.

Don't get technical with me. If you want to get that realistic. They should prevent reloading from being a full clip every time you reload from a half full clip. Like for example, if you have 3 clips and you reload one of them when it is half full you should be able to cycle back to it at half full. I'm just saying...

Plus the game story line is around the year 2023, and it should be possible for guns to be able to fire underwater because it's the future and the future has unlimited possibilities.

no, 1 shot != a gun battle. a gun battle = > 1 shot. the water pressure causes the slide to jam and therefore you can't have sustained gunfire.

last time i checked you can't change the laws of physics no matter how hard you try or want to.

like shooting trees with rifles: crysis 1 did it but the reality is it's not possible unless it's with a mini-gun and not an assault rilfe or pistol. if you saw mythbusters you would have known this as both were tackled by the team.

Too much water resistance, they would do almost no damage :P There's a Mythbusters episode about it

Then why can I fire into water and kill people? Explain that one realists. jk. Anyway just be care full when in water and someone is out of it. They can kill you because it is like shooting fish in a barrel. :)

because you're firing from air into water, not when the weapon is submersed in water. besides, mythbusters did this again and said that at a few feet under the water the bullets would just be obliterated by the impact when it hits the water's surface.

Well if you wanted to get into the physics side of things, theoretically the gauss weapons should work underwater because there's no sliding mechanism, it would be magnetically powered. Explosives would also still function underwater because they're generally chemical explosions. How much damage that would do would be questionable though.

Yeah, but the Gauss gun should also electrocute you and anything else stupid enough to be within half a mile of you if you fire it underwater. Assuming it doesn't short out on contact and electrocute you anyway.

Well that would depend on how the weapon itself was designed. If there were additional layers to prevent direct contact between the propelling mechanism (in this case, whatever is being magnetised) and the barrel, it would likely still work. Something like a small air chamber gap with a non-metallic internal barrel is something that comes to mind but that of course would reduce the power of the weapon as well though, seeing the magnetic flux would need to penetrate the air, then the non-metallic material and reach the projectile.

I think I'm getting too far into the design aspects here...

Hey, at least we know explosives work.

For those of you saying it's not scientifically possible to fire a weapon underwater, fine. But can crytek atleast let us be able to pull out the weapons underwater. Last time I checked its scientifically possible to move objects around underwater.
