Melee weapon/animation

Guys i've been wondering, what if we were too awesome to even quick draw to a knife, we can just switch to melee weapon, kill then switch back or too awesome to quickly draw a knife, stab someone, still look straight ahead and holster your knife perfectly (commando perk - COD MW2).
Troll me, i dare you! cause i will......meh.

Just give me a key to bind my knife to so I can backstab a person when I have the chance. That's all I need.
No instant knifing would be awesome. (Like press a button and you automatically knife)

I just want a melee attack to be a last resort/humiliation kill. The second you start adding perks to melee attacks, you're in many cases enabling people to go rambo, using the knife exclusively and claiming to be pro, and if you allow your game to get to that point, it can be hard to remove it again - because people will whine - that's at least what happened in MAG. And the knife in MW2 with the commando perk is just absurd.

Brink is going to have 2 types of melee attacks; shove when using a primary weapon, and knife swipe when you're using the pistol. Which I think is great. I also hope they will make melee a single-target attack, meaning you can come up to a group and cut them all down by pressing the button once. I think it's nice to see a game where people actually have a trade-off between the good melee attack and the bad, as opposed to a game where you can only buff the melee attack.

Its a fast paced game so seems most decent to have mass effect style u just knock them over the head with your gun. security and resistance doesnt really sceam quick knifing or assassinations more just getting the job done

The melee will be *Stock hit* and knock a person down, then one more melee hit will kill them.
With pistol out it will be one hit kill knife.

Not entirely true. When using pistols you do get a knife, but knife stabs/swipes/whatever are only a one hit kill on unbuffed Lights. It will still take at least two hits to take down Medium and Heavy foes. :homestar:

Unless its TF2,

Everything has been said except the operatives backstab, that is theoretically a OHK.

I want to see muzzle thumps instead of buttstock swats. It's a more practical melee use than using you're buttstock because you can fire WHILE doing it. You simply thrust your weapon forward and hit your opponent with the front of the barrel. AND yes, it does hurt, but no it won't kill you, unless you placed it in the proper position (temple, jugular, etc).... but the same goes for using a butt stock. I would just like to see the use of the muzzle thump be more widely used in the video game environment because it is almost as strong, but it is far faster, and far more useful because you never lose your ability to fire your weapon. It is merely to disorient an opponent and create space.

Punch him. He'll fall down and I'll keep punching him until he dies. Probably something like this.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OeOh7amjvQ0

As of now you will only fall down with a gun melee or splash damage or sliding, falling down on a punch would be cheap. I dont see how you would punch anyway with the current gun and pistol situation.

Let go of the gun, wind, and swing. Or maybe we can have different melee options.

Different melee options would be cool but I think punching would not fit with the games philosophy of melee, all melees knock you down besides knifing, and I dont think It would look normal knocking a Heavy down with on punch, and since punching has the disad. of having to release the gun winding it would make sense to make it stronger because it is a longer move to execute that requires more timing, but I doubt Brink would do all that to incorporate such an aesthetic addition so late in the game.

It was just a joke...but I think it would be rather humorous to have it in. Otherwise, I think it's fine as it is. The whole assassination thing wouldn't really fit brink because of the lack of gore.

Something like a kick to the back could fit. Besides, as the melee knocks you down, a knife wouldn't make a lot of sense for anything other than an operatives backstab and other similar types of attacks

(once again, calm down and don't take this stuff seriously, we just want to talk like a community of good people, until the game comes out! :chaos:
i'm sure choices of melee weapon for your character in brink would be awesome, for example.

The security, supplied combat knives and batons or 'bring your own weapon', you guys get what i meant right?

The Resistance, Supplied by themselves or borrowed, Sharpened metal pieces, kitchen knife, metal poles, broken bottles(who carries this around?!)

Attach something sharp at the front of your pistols so you can dual-wield stab or shoot while stabbing someone close to you. be creative! :user:

Yeah BFBC1 had the best knife ever.
You pressed the melee button, you both swung the knife and took it out.
From then you could keep pressing melee or fire to swing it.
