Crossfire X

Why does Crysis 2 run better with crossfireX turned off? I have a core i7 processor at .27ghz, 2* ATI Radeon 5850 graphics cards and 6gb DDR3 RAM running on windows 7 64 bit. My frame rate is higher with CrossfireX turned off
