An Open Letter to Crytek

Post » Wed Nov 10, 2010 5:03 am

So, it's been a short time after release, and these are just a few of my trivial thoughts on the current state of Crysis 2.

I sincerely hope Crytek puts all their efforts into cheat detection and prevention. There is absolutely nothing more aggravating than to have cheaters in your multiplayer game, and on top of that, knowing that the said hacker is most likely someone who pirated the game.

So one, you have the rampancy of cheaters who float around the map invisibly with floating guns who refuse to die, shoot bullets made of kryptonite fragments that kill in one shot, and straight up obnoxious aimbotters.

Second, knowing that pirates even have access to the online community for free, while paying customers are stuck playing with these dregs of society.

There is no doubt that Crysis 2 is a technical achievement on all platforms; the sheer ability of Crytek to fashion a gorgeous looking game for all cannot be understated.

However, with all the vitriol spewed against Crytek for leaving PC gamers in the dark, and giving them the shaft (DX11, lack of options, Press Start, and some of the whiners are worse than the pirates), my biggest gripe is against their straight up ignorance on what it takes to foster a healthy and lively gaming community. Maybe there are legitimate reasons as to why there are so many exploits, glitches, and general lack of polish, and if that's the case, please show more transparency.

Maybe this is stemming from my KD going from 3/2:1 to 1:1 due to getting obliterated by the plague of cheaters, but I think I can speak for most, if not all of us when I say that I am deeply disappointed with my experience. Because the truth is, Crysis 2 is quite possibly the most entertaining multiplayer shooter since the first time I spent bombing boxes in de_dust.

I sincerely hope these issues get sorted out, and we finally receive the game that meets our (admittedly very lofty) expectations.

tl&dr:so much rage.

Exactly,you nailed it.

The ignorance is the worst.I could live with the bugs 1 more week if they would give us a "heads up" every day about whats going on.
Just one or two little sentences about the current situation.

First learn what makes a healthy gaming community rather than accusing others. If you remain loyal to someone and that person stabs you in the back, what kind reaction do you show next time when you see that person if you are alive that is? you are not likely to kiss that person These people are not whiners, they are sane enthusiasts, these few people drive the pc gaming forward and if some company shows favoritism towards other platforms there is bound to be reaction - they've got a good reason to do so.

No, I'm not speaking about the majority of us PC gamers who are waiting patiently and vocalizing their concerns rationally, I was trying to make a point of the minority who spew negativity and anger due to some misplaced sense of entitlement. I don't know, I just think there are worse things going on in the world right now, and if your biggest gripe in life is with the quality of a video game, I think you should consider yourself very lucky.

With that being said, I'm sure most of us would like to play the game that was advertised very soon :)

Crytek cares. They do. (Oh, and don't mind them under-achieving this release, as in indisputable world record*)

*If I'm wrong point me out to a worse release. Thank you.
