Did You Have Fun Playing Crysis 2?

Post » Wed Nov 10, 2010 6:13 am

WITHOUT COMPARISON TO CRYSIS 1, did you fellow forum-dwellers feel it stood out as a PC game? How does it compare to other games of today? Currently it seems to be battling Homefront for popularity, which is better in your opinion?

If you didn't enjoy it: get out of my topic, damn it.

Campaign's fun... but far too bug-ridden to be actually playable judging by the forums. I was lucky to not get any major bugs, aside from not being able to play multi at all (not that I've bothered trying again last week).

Well optimized... story was pretty good, gameplay solid. Could've done with a better final boss.
Probably one of the better games to come out this year. Which is saying something rather sad.

End boss should have had some kind of epic proportion; kinda like the MALWR from Killzone 3, but with less scripted rail-battles. Something like an Uber-heavy/Pinger.. The invisible predator-wannabes were pretty lame and easily incapacitated with the nearby K-Volt.

It feels like an arcade game and it is one. It is impossible to claim that we bring the Crysis1 or better Far Cry 's depth of play to the consoles. AI is not just bug-ridden, its design is pretty limited and just too way-point-based, it kills the immersion and depth right there, that is the major complaint about campaign.

I am pretty sure that whoever was responsible for the Far-Cry-AI didn't have his fingers on Crysis2. Prove me wrong if you can:P I took Far Cry as comparison, Far Cry shows how much Crysis2 fails to provide the core depth of play.

To sum it up: the goal was to combine the intensity of a linear shooter with sandbox-gameplay.
Now Far Cry managed to be sandbox and at the same time it was full of intensity in an open world. Just something to think about.

But regarding shooters in Crysis2 space: Campaign in Killzone and Modern Warfare is all about arcade-style shooting action, only that killzone is probably the most repetitive game here. Personally Halo does it best.

The AI wasn't all that bad. Sure, there were a few issues of getting caught on terrain, and being able to detect you through walls; but for the most part, I think it was well pulled off, not to mention the Parkour of the Aliens, which is an achievement in itself.

The campaign was not a sandbox in the sense of FarCry, but there were multiple options for completing all missions, giving the game a far more open feel. You can sit back and snipe, run and gun or even go all MGS on their asses and stealth your way to victory. In fact, with stealth enhance I pretty much ran through the entire last level without engaging the enemies unless absolutely necessary; and even then, it was usually a pre-emptive DGS-1 headshot

That is the problem. Since it needs to cope with vertical space some more they decided to make it as simple as possible. The AI is simply moving from waypoint to waypoint like on a rope and every instance is repeating the same procedure.
You can figure out how it works just by looking at it. Especially the aliens are guided by a rope and their waypoints are very obvious. Far Cry AI just felt much more alive, complex and much more sensitive to your actions, it is still a blast to play.

Single player svcked. I kept waiting for it to pick up and get exciting, but it didnt. just a generic shooter, nothing special.

multiplayer is ok. what holds it back is the abuse of cloak.

Abuse of cloak? Really? It's not being abused, it's being used primarily to cross open distances without being shot (as it was intended to be).
I rarely use cloak on crash site and I do pretty well. It's not a necessity, it's just one option available.

..Plus, cloaked players are still very visible for anyone with eyes.

One thing I can't stand about people cloaking are the ones that just sit in a corner most of the game and wait for someone to pass by. Inevitably, we all knew this would happen, its just when people abuse the cloak it gets annoying.
I just played C1 MP for the first time in awhile, and it feels so sterile compared to C2. I think overall C2 is more fun, but its broken in too many different areas such as occasional unresponsive controls, ridiculous hdr and bloom ( Im aware of 3rd party graphic tools, but id rather not use them), hackers running amuck everywhere, balance issues, and the list goes on. I just hit 39 earlier today, and my **** weapon unlock disappeared.. A broken, but fun experience so far. Sp was good, nothing amazing, but I'll play through it again sometime.

I assume you're playing PC by the mention of hackers? That svcks, it seems like the PC version has more problems so far than the others.

Personally, I've come across very few cloaked campers, except at crash sites; although I appreciate this by no means suggests they don't exist. As I've mentioned before on these forums though, cloak issues are usually restricted to TDM; in Crash Site games cloaking tends to become less important than armour (for the most part).

Pc version here, although im sure the consoles have their fair share of hackers. Usually they dont give me problems, but these guys have made Crysis 2 their bich. Some of these guys kill you in a split second once you get out of cover. Its pretty sad, but then I Imagine myself going to their house and dismantling their rig piece by piece and watching them cry, and that always makes me feel a little better :3

As for the cloak, even on non objective type games, people will just stand in one spot and cloak, its pretty weak, not too common, but I see it once in awhile. I dont see how people dont get bored doing that, I can rarely stand in the same spot for more than a minute

I agree, the first time I had a Ceph Runner POWERSLIDE at me I was pleasantly surprised. I'm sure it could be patched to be even better.

Did? I still do! I'm having a blast on MP, I barely notice any lag at all, maybe it's because most europeans have stable connections? Dunno. I use cloak alot but I never camp, maybe for a couple of seconds if I know there is danger around the corner and I need energy. But cloaked enemies are easy to spot and they die easy.

Sure some bugs exist and I do notice them from time to time but hopefully Crytek will patch em' up. The only thing that makes me angry is the lack of response from Crytek, but again.. they might have alot going on and are fed up with haters.

Campaign was amazing, multiplayer is less then amazing but still fun.

Although a different end-boss would be nice. The aliens didn't even cloak for Christ sakes. They took alot of damage, but besides that they were just Stalkers in grey armor. I just spammed K-Volt and beat them to death by mashing melee, didn't have to restart once.
