Crytek producer Nathan Camarillo said that...

Post » Thu Nov 11, 2010 9:39 am

"With 250 people working on a project, thousands of bugs get fixed in a heartbeat."

This is what he said during an interview about the leaked beta version of the game. As many of you know, Crytek was disappointed because didn't want people to see a beta, full of bugs version of the game, and were "really excited about the [final] game and the quality that we were able to get into it and what we were able to accomplish..."

Considering all that is going on with the game, the obvious problems, and Crytek approach, I just wonder why and how those 250 folks focused on solving bugs haven't been able to fix in "a heartbeat" serious issues such as the CF/SLI flickering that so much is annoying too many users.

The flickering can be solved by turning off SLI if your using 2 cards and not a Dual GPU card.

This doesn't solve the problem. Disabling SLI or using RadeonPro profiles, or renaming the .exe file all allow some relief from the bad flickering, which also affect negatively the overall GPU performance and cause a fps drop.

How is it that I dont experience this on a Hydralogix system. Also it would be nice to see this flickering but I dont think that anyone has bothered to make a video of it. Hydralogix allows me to play supported games once a driver update comes out to support these newer nvidia drivers with any GPU I please in multi GPU. I have been playing with a 470 and 275 together for a while and then I got a 570 which I just sent to EVGA for Step up for a 580. Im just waiting for a new Lucid driver. The difference between SLI, crossfire and Hydralogix is that the Hydra uses alternate frame rendering so that each GPU renders one frame and the cards alternate where SLI and crossfire use split frame rendering where the cards render half a frame.

IIRC when you pair video cards together that are not the same you will only get the output equal to if you had 2x the weakest card...It works the same way with crossfire I believe, you can pair non matching cards together but are always limited by the weakest card. When you get your Gtx 580 run a test with one card and then with the 470 + 580 in multi-gpu setup on any benchmark such as vantage or heaven, see if the results match or exceed a 470 sli setup.

We are all glad that your system is working fine. However, I can assure you that many people with CF/SLI are experiencing bad flickering - several have also uploaded videos on youtube, showing how much the game flickers, out of frustration. You can easily find them. Besides, the fact that this is a real problem, among many others, is highlighted by the effort of AMD and NVIDIA to provide some solutions - see the release of various Crysis2 profiles aimed to optimize the game and its performance - and their statements regarding CF/SLI flickering.

The fact that you are not experiencing problems shouldn't make you willing to antagonize those many who cannot enjoy the game as they would like to because effective support to dual GPU cards configuration was overlooked during the game development.

Peace

Yeah this is getting ridiculous. If we have to wait another week for some fixes at least TELL us what you guys are working on.

This total silent-treatment we get from them is BS.

No kidding that's why it's a problem dipstick. To fix the SLI problem don't use SLI. HAHAHAHA What a joke. It's like going to a garage because four wheel drive isn't working and their answer is don't use four wheel drive. Seriously people. Use your brain.

At this point, I would be kicking Camarillo and begging Blizzard or Valve to come in to the server. But at this point, the server has already been tainted and no one wants to join. If you make a game, support it. If you are working on fixing it, keep us informed. That's all we want.

Also, don't have a time frame for a patch and then not deploy it within that time. Whatever this patch is, it better add DX11 support, remove the majority of hackers (because you can't get them all), fix SLI, fix multiplayer server issues, make it so we can sign in with our gamesas accounts, make it so the serial will save, and make it so we can use our Limited Edition.

Yes, I essentially agree with you. I also think that Crytek is the "hot" developer of the moment and got its hands too full with working simultaneously on various projects. When you become famous and got EA funding you it all ends up to maneuvering and business, where delivering new products is a main concern, while providing effective support is not. These last events have demonstrated that Crytek's 250 folks are now more busy developing new stuff that focusing on fixing bugs in a heartbeat. Tech support doesn't provide EA with immediate gains, which is of course their main concern, so they disregard it for now. Many users are pissed about the game shortcomings, but several others who are not experiencing too severe technical issues like the game and provide positive feedback. I don't mind if the textures are half the size of Crysis 1, overall the game is fun to play, but if I can close an eye to the really dumb AI, I cannot be pleased by the flickering that affects most of the CF/SLI configurations, showing that this aspect wasn't taken too much into account during the development phase.

Peace

i'd say hang the man and make him an example for other developers/pr's or whatsoever.. this **** is fraude and i find it sad that they have the F*ckin EULA to back all of their lies up. seriously, i dont think i'll feel bad if the guy that made this DRM and Eula up dies in the most horrifying way.

He talked metaphorically, so no.

Most bugs usually take a month or two to fix up. Crytek seems to be achieving that in weeks and in the day 1 patch. ONE THING TO NOTE THOUGH, is the leak literally emotionally distressed Crytek. Nathan Camarillo talking about bugs getting fixed that fast was a rather nervous and rapid statement because he didn't want people to think that Crysis 2 was the crap it was during the leak. It's still unfinished due to EA not giving as much time as Crytek needed but the amount of bugs from the leak verison, at least from what I heard, have been immensly fixed.

Well, yes, Camarillo was speaking metaphorically, and for sure out of frustration. However, many users were aware that they were downloading a beta, so a full-of-bugs version of the game. Since he was so worried about users being discontent prior the game release, I wonder why he hasn't made (yet) a similar statement about the actual irritation and frustration that so many have manifested through this forum. In so doing, he made himself target of, at least, sarcastic comments such as my own. I am among those players who, no matter the various, obvious bugs that currently plague the game, and not to mention the vapid AI, are still enjoying the game. I still like Crysis 2 in spite of the fact that I am one of the victims of the dual GPU flickering. This problem, which is most likely the result of EA hurrying Crytek for releasing the game ASAP, can be very annoying. The truth is that many think that dual GPU owners cry because they can't run the game at 200fps, while in the real world, most need dual GPU support to run the game at a just enjoyable frame rate. This is my case. Actually, disabling one of the cards, or using profiles and other "fixes" drastically reduces the overall performance, making the gaming experience a stuttering and unpleasant one. As you sure know, CF configurations suffer of a terrible micro-stuttering in game around 30/40fps. I still feel optimistic though, and I like to think that sooner than later gamers are going to see some updates or patches that will improve Crysis 2 gaming experience. Nevertheless, if the ranting that I see about this forum is void of sense and redundant, the frustration that many have made public with civility is more than legit, and so is making fun, in a sarcastic fashion of Camarillo's "famous last words."
