- Firstly, you have some overly-dramatic story that looks like it came straight out of your generic Hollywood action-flick. It's like Modern Warfare 2's story in comparison to the original Modern Warfare's story. MW1 had a fairly tame and believable storyline, but MW2 **** all over it with the most ridiculous storyline I ever had the shame of witnessing.
- How is it that you're supposedly in an upgraded Nanosuit, but it absolutely pales in comparison to the original? That makes no sense at all. It's like they had to gimp the Nanosuit or people would progress through these generic linear levels in seconds, which brings me to my next point...
- Where the hell is the open-sandbox gameplay Crysis was known for? Why am I playing a generic corridor shooter? The answer: consoles. It's good to see Crytek is truly showing respect toward the platform that put them on the map (the PC).
- Crysis 2 is a console port. I don't see how there's an argument against this. Remember when the multiplayer beta told you to "Press Start to Begin"? or you were told to adjust your TV's brightness in the options menu? Good times. Again, great to see Crytek is supporting their PC community.
- The multiplayer is filled with hackers. Not only could pirates access the multiplayer for the longest time, but hackers continue to roam freely. I like how "hacking" is as easy as modifying a .cfg file. Nice one, Crytek.
- The multiplayer is a clone of Call of Duty. Remember how awesome Crysis Wars was? The open environments, the strategic use of Nanosuit powers, not dying in three shots, custom maps, and vehicles? Replace all of that with perks, killstreaks, horribly gimped Nanosuit abilities, and dying in three shots even though you're wearing a high-tech suit. Awesome.
- Now, I'm not one to whine about graphics, but I'm making an exception for this point. The original Crysis had amazing graphics that was unmatched by any other game of the time. It set an example for other developers to follow. Four years later, you have Crysis 2, and it looks exactly like the original Crysis with the exception of somewhat lower quality textures and everything has some sort of blur applied to it. Good to see technology is truly evolving and Crytek is yet again at the forefront.
Overall, Crysis 2 won't be remembered for long. A decade from now, it'll be grouped together with all the other generic corridor shooters of this decade. Maybe, just maybe, it'll have the distinction of being viewed as the "black sheep" of the Crysis series, as the first game was actually good. Needless to say, I won't be purchasing another Crytek game ever again. I hope you guys enjoy your money.
