We can shoot the trees

Post » Thu Nov 11, 2010 5:17 pm

I've just replayed Dead Man Walking, one of my favorite levels in the whole game, and I tried to shoot some small trees on rooftop of a buiding and to my surprise, the trees broke and fell down. Pity that we can shoot only 5 tiny trees in that area. So yeah the trees are destructible in this game.

Edit: In the CryEngine 3 tech demo shown at GDC09, we saw the player shoot one of the palm trees ( 360/PS3 versions) but why didn't Crytek make this in Crysis 2 ?

My life is complete now that i can shoot trees. Nothing else matters unless i can cut down trees with my bullets...

...is it REALLY that gamebreaking? Sure its cool...but so was knocking down forests in BFBC1...for a time...

You can shoot all the tiny trees, like the ones in Lighthouse MP.

Have you noticed though that they only break in certain places. If you decide to shoot the tree near the top, nothing happens. I think they are only destructible in 3 places on the tree itself. Try and cut the tree into smaller pieces and you will fail.

Why we can't shoot down more trees? Because they're too thick. Those you can shoot down are easy to break down, but it would be unhuman to break down a massive tree in Battery Park. BTW, in Multiplayer, almost every tree can be destroyed. Try it!

umm Yes it is. destructible environments and physics are a huge part of gameplay. BFBC1 would not be the same without those destructible trees opening up new routes for vehicles or just destroying cover of infantry.

I'm pretty sure they mentioned procedural destruction and deformation at a certain point before they released the game
