Crossfire 5870 Performance

Post » Sat Feb 26, 2011 2:09 am

Hello All,

Quick question. People with dual 5870's, how is the performance you are getting from this game? I hit 60 fps once in a while but it's usually between 35-50 and drops once in a while. If it helps i can list my other specs and maybe you can let me know if this is the right fps. I only ask because everyone and their mother on this board is claiming that they are getting 60 fps locked. Now i'm not saying they are lying but I find it weird that I am not.

Note: I am trying to run the game with max settings, v sync on with a resolution of 1920 x 1080.

I want to add that I know ideal crossfire performance should be with x16 x x8 atleast but I haven't noticed any problems with other games (except Assassin's Creed II but what a god awful port that is).

Specs:

XFX 5870 1gb in Crossfire
G. Skill Ripjaws 4gb DDR3
AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE OC'd to 3.8 Ghz
Asus M4A87TD EVO (PCI-E 2.0 slots x16, x4)
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit

Thanks for the help as always.

your only getting 60FPS on max at 1080p? it seems as though xfire is not enables in the game. i frequently get 60+ FPS with my one 5870 on the same settings.

At ringorock,

You're right it does.. That said I didn't buy this setup specifically for this game. Also, this is a system in which I most likely wont need to update for a long time. Attitude isn't needed especially since I didn't show any. So if your not gonna help then there's no need to post, especially if what you post wont help.

Back on topic. KING_OF_SAND, I have Crossfire enabled in CCC and have the game updated. Do you know any other reason for this. I was finding this very weird myself.

just because you have xfire on in CCC does not mean it works in game. the game must natively support xfire in order to work.

Amen !

My 5970s crush this game...60FPS nailed. 19x12, V-sync on, Extreme...never budges from 60 fps.

One card is even idle..lol.

Crysis 1 gives my rig a better workout.

Nothing wrong with AMD / ATI cards

KING_OF_SAND you're right I know what you mean. But seeing the post above, a 5970 is crossfire by default and that person has it 60 fps locked. 2 5870's are slightly better then one 5970 and my frames are a lot less. That's what kind of bugs me you know what I mean. The CAP1 profile seems to only work for the Steam version so maybe i'll have to wait. If there is anything else you can think of me trying to fix this i would greatly appreciate. Thank you for the help.

Apparently renaming the crysis2.exe has worked on the steam version for cfX an SLI, though this is only what I had heard, try that if it doesn't work try fiddling with CCC. If that doesn't specifically fix it try creating a crossfire profile in CCC.

As for speculative generalisation with (16x 8x 4x) there isn't much difference between cfX and SLI with two cards in 8x 8x vs 16x 16x isn't much of a performance drop, I've read the performance increase for 16x 16x is a meer 4 6% on some titles though consider 8x 4x could be a higher dip in performance but should definitely be under 8% I wouldn't expect the cards you are using to pull under 60fps.

Yet the card I use personally is one NVIDIA GTX 570 an that runs everything maxed at your exact settings @ 60fps most of the time yet can dip to 40 on a rare occasion when nearing to the end of the campaign missions. I have just read into cfX and SLI lots, I hope you can find the answer you were looking for.

My two 5870s are performing about the same as the OP. It's all smooth and playable to me, but yes crossfire isn't working correctly. I'm pretty confident that AMD will get that worked out in time. The new CAP was to correct the flicker issues mostly from what I understand. I'm in no hurry right now, just as long as AMD has gotten their drivers straight by the time a DX11 patch rolls out. ;)

Alright well from the sound of it, I think we'll have to wait for a new CAP from AMD. I will try the RadeonPro Profile to see if that helps any. Thanks for all the help guys I really appreciate it.
