GT8800 but gameplay gets laggy after sometime.

Post » Fri Feb 25, 2011 2:55 am

Hi all,

I've tried my best to search for help on this topic but yet to find any.

These are my specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo at 2.6 GHz
2GB RAM
NVidia 8800GT with 512 MB RAM
Win XP
more than 70gb of free memory.

The game runs smoothly for abit and goes laggy after maybe 10-15minutes of gameplay.

I've reduced my resolution and running it at gamer settings, made sure no programs were running in the background, and any other standard troubleshooting issues.

Please help me on troubleshooting or maybe some tweaks to make it better!! I saw a program around here that allows u to tweak the graphics settings and would be trying it later...

I thought so too but i read other threads in this forum who ran 8800GT smoothly on gamer settings, so i figured my rig would have a decent shot at playing it smoothly, even at the lowest settings.

I'm not sure about that as I'm not that much into tweaking my PC. But it should not be an issue as I have 2 cooling fans and leave the casing open during gameplay. Not sure if this is useful information but I'm quite sure the gpu temp and casing airflows are not an issue as these problems never came up before in all games I've played. It also plays crysis 1 very smoothly

>>Pvt.death, then i must be doing something wrong on my pc since u can run it smoothly but I get laggy! Can u help me out?

Thanks for the very helpful feedback=)

I have same card.. 8800GT 512mb.
Core 2 Duo 2.6 -> 3.0ghz OC
4gb ram

I play on average 41 fps, 30 min 52 max fps.
1920 x 1080 fullscreen.

Set on high (lowest setting)
Also turned off everything, AA + AF, bloom, shadows off on Advanced Graphic Options 1.6
Try it, I have no problems with lag.

I think you still have AA and AF on, you need to turn them off to see noticeable improvement.
Mine used to lag like hell with it on, around ~23 fps.

8800GT is more than capable to run Crysis 2 on high settings, but you definitely need more RAM, especially if you are on Vista or Windows 7. While playing Crysis 2, keep task manager opened in background, and when this lag happens check if all available physical memory was used up and windows started to use hard drive for that purpose. Pay close attention to amount of memory allocated to Crysis 2 process, this lag can be caused by memory leak. Again, keep task manager opened and monitor your system for any sudden spikes of physical memory usage.

hi, you could use more RAM, but what's really holding you back is your CPU clock. 2.6 GHz is terribad. You need to overclock that up to 3.2GHz+

Here is the utility to tweak your graphics settings.
http://www.fileplanet.com/219312/210000/fileinfo/Crysis-2---Advanced-Graphics-Options-Utility

I agree another 2GB of ram would probably help most ( besides a new video card), granted you'll only get to use about 1.1-1.5Gb of that ram, but that should be enough to give Crysis a little more breathing room. If your pagefile is getting thrashed, then you'll definately see choppy performance. Unless maybe if you were using a SSD drive, but more ram would be a better option.

Thank you very much Murdock, the graphics setting utility solved my problem. I would be getting another 2GB of RAM this weekend to boost my Pc's performance. Thanks again!
